So you want to be a woodworker eh?

06-24-2010 11:24 AM by David Craig | 33 comments »

Anybody else find the term “woodworker” a little too simplified? Three years ago, I get a thought in my head. “It would be cool to make my own furniture, toys, and items for the house..” So the tool purchases start. I pick up a mitersaw, table saw, router, drill, the basic power tools. Five minutes after I start, the next thought in my head “I would like to cut one board that is somewhat square looking…” And thats when it really begins… Yo...

That's how the fight started

01-23-2010 03:40 PM by WoodSparky | 16 comments »

My wife and I were watching Who Wants To Be A Millionaire while we were in bed.I turned to her and said, “Do you want to make love?” “No,” she answered. I then said, “Is that your final answer?” She didn’t even look at me this time, simply saying “Yes.” So I said, “Then I’d like to phone a friend.” And that’s when the fight started…. —————————...

The Stumpy Nubs Workshop #32: A Dust Collection Experiment That Might Destroy the WORLD!

01-12-2013 01:51 AM by StumpyNubs | 10 comments »

MAN- there’s a lot of great stuff in this episode! First, we talk about true dust collection power with Bill Pentz (part two of our dust collection series), Charles Neil stops by again, I show off my four favorite block planes and start an experiment that might destroy the world. Besides that we talk about the Harbor Freight dust collector, ask average woodworker five dumb questions, talk about King Tut’s stool, and that’s not even everything! ALSO- We’re making ...

How the Mustache Defeated the Cyclops, Stumpy's Black Friday Odyssey...

12-01-2013 05:20 PM by StumpyNubs | 8 comments »

Having survived Black Friday at my local Woodcraft last year, I considered myself as brave as any man since Homer’s Odysseus. (That would be Homer of antiquity, not Homer Simpson.) Odee, as his friends may have called him, was headed home after a long day fighting the Trojans when he got lost and decided to go on an Odyssey. I think Odysseus must have been a woodworker. He was tall, muscular, the ladies loved him- he was the Stumpy Nubs of his day. But most of all, he was able to go wherever ...

06-09-2012 02:41 PM by StumpyNubs | 32 comments »

Once in a lifetime we achieve a level of perfection so high we wonder if our very lives will ever be the same! That is what I imagine all of you will think the moment you see the new drill press table. Or, at the very least, you’ll have a good time laughing at me. This episode of Blue Collar Woodworking is all about the new drill press table, complete with downdraft dust collection, drawers for storage, and a micro-adjustable, X-Y sliding table. After that we show ou how to ma...

The F word!!

04-08-2011 10:02 PM by Div | 28 comments »

Well, actually the S word, but the S word is part of the F word anyway…..............................???? I need all the help I can get…..I do have the Wood Spirit looking out for me…..or is it that fellow that sits on our shoulders…. Busy sanding a 4.1m long African mahogany top for a very long built in desk with drawers. 4.1m is about 161 inches for those who still prefer to measure with King George’s thumb……I think it was his thumb, I know it was some king’s thumbR...

Crazy Stuff Stumpy Thinks About #5: I'm not the only moron around here... Introducing Joy, Kyle and Randy...

03-06-2012 01:43 PM by StumpyNubs | 26 comments »

A lot of people ask me who works in the Stumpy Nubs Workshop. They see me talking to someone off camera on one of the shows, or they notice I say “we, here at the Stumpy Nubs Workshop” a lot, yet I’m the only one they ever see on camera. So, here’s the lowdown on that: It’s much like the situation that Sam Maloof enjoyed, only without the skill and artistic genius. He hired a young man to help him around the shop. Soon he had far more people who wanted to be his “shop boy” than he had spac...

Crazy Stuff Stumpy Thinks About #37: Funny Festool Video- The Finest Woodworker in the World?

03-17-2013 11:34 PM by StumpyNubs | 18 comments »

I made this video for a Festool thing, a parody of the “Most interesting man in the world” Dos Equis commercials. It’s supposed to be tongue in cheek, so don’t email me saying I am not the “finest Woodworker in the World”, please. Visit Stumpynubs.com for more woodworking goodness! The Stumpy Nubs Workshop #21: I got a new jig in a card game!

05-14-2012 01:12 AM by StumpyNubs | 33 comments »

Sharpening card scrapers was never so easy, or so much fun… This week is all about card scrapers: how to sharpen them, how to use them, we make a rack to store them and a jig to burnish them. Along the way we do some fooling around and talk about Roy Underhill’s mustache! There are two projects in this episode, a tool review and a detailed demonstration of cabinet scraping goodness. Check out more episodes at Stumpynubs.com. Enjoy!
