• My marquetry guidelines:
There’s nothing to it,... really just get a nice and strait ruler, a sharp normal utility-knife, scotch-tape , patience and a small hard sandingblock with 150 and 180 grain and start cutting, thats how I learned it…..
Guidelines:
- I generally use MDF as a work-surface because it has no grain and therefore the knife won’t try to ‘wonder off’.
- Never try to cut the veneer in one go, always make multiple lite strokes dependin...

I’m thinking about making some Nutcrackers from a viewer project on http://thewoodwhisperer.com/nut-cracker-viewer-project-of-the-week/ for stocking stuffers, Marc does not have a drawing. Any Google SketchUP experts out there that would like to try making a plan to post?

I purchased the hood shown in the link below.
http://www.pennstateind.com/store/R-TDHOOD.html
And I want to install it on my Ridgid TA3650 saw. Now comes the good part!!! I had a plan to build a unit that incorporates the hood. The unit is 3/4” plywood (2’x4 1/2’ approx.) that bolts between the saw and the stand, you screw the dust hood to the plywood. The plan shows a drawer and shelf using the plywood “overhang” to the left of the saw and a shelf on t...

A few weeks ago Al Navas shared a very nice idea with me. He was touched by a case of one of our fellow LumberJocks – Henrie Schumacher – and he decided to help Schumie to realize his dream to do some woodworking once again…
Henrie’s background:Schummie (Henrie) lives in The Netherlands. He is married, has a wonderful wife, and three wonderful children, two boys and one girl. He was a policeman, until tragic events on the job forever changed his life. Henrie is physically...

I got my folding rule from Walt. Anyway, i should have taken a ‘before’ shot. I decided to clean it, and i ended up messing it up, i think. Is it beyond repair? I saw this entry from Chris Schwarz, but i can’t get any Borax here, or oxallic acid.
So i am turning to you, my LJ buddies for help!

Ancientwood has developed a technique for filling large, structural cracks, sometimes found in Ancient Kauri slabs. This is a step-by-step approach for creating a flat surface with beautiful patterns and design.
1. The slab must first be flattened. This can be done with a drum sander, planer or a CNC router.2. After the slab is flat, locate cracks that need filling.3. Fill any hairline cracks with color-matched latex putty. Wet the adjacent area of the Ancient Kauri with spirits to get an a...

I recently aquired an “Old Craftsman Table Saw”, When I found out that I could get it, I couldn’t get there to pick it up fast enough. It is a beautiful piece of equipment. I have cleaned it up ( I think it’s been in a chicken barn for the last 35 years -lol- ), fabricated a vacume dust shute for it and baught a new blade. BUT of course nothing is ever free, I need a motor and rip fence for it. The motor I can get anywhere, the rip fence is what I need HELP with. Anyon...

I’m working at making something of a couple damaged and mismatched sections of barrister bookcase. The two sections are basically surplus from the “good” cases I have. These didn’t fit, one section was badly fire damaged and oddly repaired at one point. I thought I could make it a little better and more useful.
This picture shows the fire damaged section, the side had been planed down in an uneven taper, about 1/4 inch or more was taken out of the original oak. ...

I installed the vanity today and shot a short Video of what it looked like in place. The girl seemed very excited about the new bathroom cabinets but has yet to try them out,I hope she is happy with the configuration. I asked the parents to keep in touch and let me know if any tweaking of the design might be needed for future projects or adapted to others with similar needs.

I don’t know if this is where you would put this, but I’m new here. I have always been interested in woodburning, but I’m not sure how. Is there anyone who could give me tips or some tutorials on how to woodburn things? I have a pretty nice burner, but I’m not to good, so any help would be appreciated.
