Conference Room Table #1: Table top help

04-29-2016 11:24 PM by RPG | 0 comments »

Hello lumber jock community. I’d love some advise and pics if possible on this. I’ve been asked to build a conference room table for a small company. I’m on a low budget but want to obviously make a quality top. I made the pedestals already but struggling with the top and budget. My thoughts are to either join oak 3/4” 6X8’s together or a sheet of oak ply and join butter board ends. I was going to pocket hole and glue everything together and case it with 1X3 o...

09-24-2015 03:25 PM by cdavissf | 9 comments »

Hello fellow “woodies” I am not near the craftsman many of you likely are, but I am hopeful this community can help me find a solution to my project that I can apply. Effectively, I am building teak deck grates for an antique 1956 22’ shepherd runabout boat. the grates are going to be laid over top of the existing marine plywood subfloor and are purely for looks. I have 3/4” spacing (as well as thickness) on the grates surrounded by 2 1/2” border. Eve...

New to this, in need of help!

04-10-2015 09:30 AM by LennonsDadsBeard | 9 comments »

This is my first entry and I am just starting out with wood working. For Christmas I had started making my fiancĂ© a painters pallet. She is an artist and I wanted to make something aestheticly pleasing but also functional. I thought this would be a simple enough first project. I purchased a price of black walnut, kiln dried with a live edge. It’s a beautiful piece of wood. I mapped out my cups and began chiseling. All was well for a while but I don’t have the best tools as I ...

Question /Gluing solid wood panels

05-14-2014 06:26 PM by Rafe Demers | 2 comments »

I am currently working on a Jewlery Box and had some questions. I will be making the box out of Sapele with a bookmatched Birdseye Mapel panel for the top which will be held in a dado/groove. The bottom panel will be Sapele and secured the same way. The corners will be mitered with Wenge keys to help strengthen the joints. My question is should I glue in the bottom and top panels? The top and bottom panels for the box will be about 1/4 inch. I know that when making cabinet doors in the past I...
