Question /Gluing solid wood panels

75 days ago by Rafe Demers | 2 comments »

I am currently working on a Jewlery Box and had some questions. I will be making the box out of Sapele with a bookmatched Birdseye Mapel panel for the top which will be held in a dado/groove. The bottom panel will be Sapele and secured the same way. The corners will be mitered with Wenge keys to help strengthen the joints. My question is should I glue in the bottom and top panels? The top and bottom panels for the box will be about 1/4 inch. I know that when making cabinet doors in the past I...

Help out a new woodworker

142 days ago by mptap | 10 comments »

Hello to all lumberjocks! As the title says, I am pretty new to woodworking. I have a lot of questions about techniques, tools, and ideas for projects. It seems as one question gets answered another one peaks my interest. Right now I am interested in getting and learning how to use hand tools for joinery, planing, and the like. I don’t have a planer or really any good hand tools yet (I borrow my grandfather’s tools, but even his are limited in the hand tool department). My firs...

questions from a beginner

287 days ago by samdavis224 | 0 comments »

Hi all! I am a young 16 year old guy that is starting to be interested in wood turning and also antler turning. currently i have shaped multiple antlers into different knives, but am looking for a good protective coating. I do not want to be able to use it as an everyday knife, but a ceremonial knife. I want to be able to have it be sharp but don’t want to harm the bone itself. Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Workshop #1: Benchtop for new workbench

369 days ago by Jason W. Fudge | 2 comments »

I decided that I wanted another workbench. I already have the wood workbench from HF that I picked up on sale for about 100 bucks a few years ago. That was a great purchase. But I have outgrown it and now need a larger one. Given that I’m in the military and will probably be moving in a few years I have been thinking about how I wanted to make the base. I came up with a simple, yet effective solution. Use my heavy duty storage racks. Later I might add cabinets, but for now, just t...

Hello all,Lately I have been thinking about making a cedar log cabin sauna for my cabin in the woods. I was thinking I could some how rig it up with a small wood stove. Anyone have any comments or suggestions to me about this? I am planning on squaring the logs so for it. My cabin is a scribe fit log cabin but I would rather not do that much work just for this sauna. Thanks!

New-er woodworker and need finishing help

481 days ago by WoodyMark | 11 comments »

Ok, so I know that finishing is an art all in itself. Finishing takes a lot of time and patience for beginners, but it seems that once you get it, you got it! I am struggling pretty badly with a Cherry Top entryway table that I am making my wife. The table started one Saturday as a ‘nothing special’ just needing a place to put a lamp type of project. My wife bought some curvy legs (the type with balls at the bottom of the feet) at Lowes one day because they were on clearanc...

Can any of you brilliant, engineering types help a dumb, little old lady with TS V-belt questions?

495 days ago by lightweightladylefty | 19 comments »

I recently replaced the 5-HP motor on my Grizzly right-tilt table saw. (To be honest, my husband did because this weakling couldn’t lift 65 pounds.) I figured it was a good idea to replace the belts, too, so I ordered a set from Grizzly along with the motor. I’ve now gotten 3 sets of belts from Grizzly and none of them match my old, original belts. My original belts were FM-26. The first belts sent were 3V-250 which were the same configuration but too short. When I called b...
