Workbench build 2013 #1: IntroI need a new bench. i scored a solid core door to use as a benchtop. Box with hand cut finger joints #1: Making the cutI decided I was going to get some free wood from a local retail store that had left over pallets laying around. After getting permission, I borrowed a pick-up truck and got a load of pallets home. Trial and error taught me you can not just hammer them apart and expect to have any usable wood. I finally used a handheld circular saw and carefully missed the nails as I disassembled the pallets. I managed to get four small pieces that looked like they could make a box. I cleaned up the edges o... Router Table #11: Drawer Fronts in Front(s) of the Drawershand’t got the chance to post this on sunday, but I did get a chance to mill the drawer fronts to thickness, width, and height on sunday, and temporarily install them on the drawers. for lack of materials the drawer fronts came to be 3/8”+ in thickness as opposed to the original plan of 3/4”, but since this is just drawer fronts, I’m not too concern about this. it actually makes it looks a bit more refined and elegant. I do have some alignment issues as the drawe... Child's Toy Box Chest SeatI wanted a chair for my daughter’s cubby house and was looking to buy something 2nd hand. I came across a chunky pine post in my back shed and inspiration struck. I decided I could make a chest that could provide some storage for toys and double as a bench seat – I also wanted to get my head around this mortise and tenon business. I marked everything out and cut all of my tenons then cleaned them up with chisels. All hand tools so far, by necessity. I marked each ... Hand Plane Restoration 1.0Restore a hand plane getting all that rust and gunk off. Hand Planes #6: Using the Cove PlaneI have a lot of projects that my wife (HI Nicole!) wants me to do involving wood. Well it never seems like they get done and I feel bad because I want her to be happy. She asked me to make her a little shelf to go over the back of the couch to place picture frames on or what ever else ends up going there. I figured this would be a great chance to practice some of my hand tool skills and see how it goes. I measured out the back of the couch to see what the length should be which was 78″. It is... Video: How To Hand Cut Precision Dovetails: The PinsMany of you probably cut dovetails with power tools & jigs —and so do I. But for some projects, I really prefer cutting them by hand and I never tire of learning how to do it better. That’s what took me on one of my recent video “treks” (journeys), where I filmed the segment I’ve posted here — this time to the shop of master cabinetmaker Craig Vandall Stevens. In this two-part series, Craig (who studied under James Krenov) uses only a saw, chisel, and several sh... Who cut the cheese? Opps, I mean wood.Clean and simple info on some basic hand saws in a workshop. View article Workbench build 2013 #3: Leg Building 1.2In this segment I assemble the right and left legs. I go over the half-blind dovetail and also the bridal joint. Thanks for checking it out! Progression Photos on the "The Greatest Story Ever Told" Walking Cane ProjectRealizing that the story and photos of this walking cane project are decidedly Christian in content, if you are offended by such things, you should read another Blog. This project is a cane that I was commissioned to build, which tells the story of the Old Testament, the New Testament, and will be used to talk about the customer’s faith as he uses the symbols to tell the story. I hope that if you are offended by the content, that you will at least enjoy the woodworking process that is... |
