Chess pieces and board #5: The Knight

02-26-2014 03:08 AM by Luke | 2 comments »

I’ve made a prototype of the knight, finally. It’s not perfect, but a good start. I’ll have to remake this one as I made a critical error in centering the cut on the front/rear view of the piece. I probably won’t post a video on this one as one piece takes me about an hour to make. I’ll post pictures as I get them done though. The eyes were made with a 1/4” forstner bit. The grooves for the hair were made with a v-groove carving chisel. All partial relief e...

05-27-2013 04:14 AM by Walther von Einik | 4 comments »

Also, video blog is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEzqKl-QOwA&feature=youtu.be I was looking for some photos and saw this – very old, and remembered that long time ago saw rare architecture, sculptures and houses in Riga. I always liked how the tree with impression of the ages looks. It reminded me my childhood, when my grandfather was making different things in «old style». Work In Progress #4: Canasta Part 4

11-22-2011 07:29 AM by Byron | 0 comments »

So here it is, the final glue up. I over clamped to be safe, not in the sense of clamping pressure but as far as where I was clamping. This glue up entailed gluing all 4 sets of tails and pins with the mitered front (all the same piece) of the carcass as well as gluing in the center of the floating panel. By glueing the center of the panel I control the movement of expansion and contraction to both edges, ensuring the gaps always stay very close to the same, also keeping them as smal...

This is one of those plaques: I’m not that good with my hands, and If you have any tips for me on what can I do so t...
