Another mixed bag from Grizzly

888 days ago by coloradoclimber | 31 comments »

Well I did it again, I ordered from Grizzly and got what I should have expected. I’ve been wanting a tenoning jig, I read some reviews, Grizzly is rated a good value, generally as functional as any other brands. I looked at the pictures of the grizzly and others and decided the grizzly looked just as good and was substantially less money. I’ll be reviewing the tenoning jig in another thread but for now here’s a short intro to other stuff I found in the box. I ordered...

Seeking Advice on Thickness Sanders

752 days ago by Blake | 19 comments »

I have been saving my pennies for a thickness sander. I really need one for surfacing small stock for boxes. There seems to be only two (and a half) models in my price range: Grizzly G0459 12” and the Performax 628900 Mini 10-Inch (which as far as I can tell is identical to the Jet 10-20 Plus?) Grizzly G0459 12”: $495.00 on Amazon plus shipping, only one review (5 star). Performax 628900 Mini 10-Inch: $499.99 on Amazon with free shipping, reviews state tracking problems. ...

Garage Re-Do #15: Coughing - Gagging?

275 days ago by MyOldGarage | 17 comments »

At first I thought it was just my imagination. I took some deep breaths this morning and felt very constricted and tight in my chest. I was just coming down the hall when I heard my wife Peggy also blowing her nose and sounding congested. We talked and neither one of us was experiencing any symptoms like that until last night’s cutting on the garbage can holder. We decided that the bag filter system was definitely next on the “must-do” items to help our health. To...

Hello everyone- I just wanted to say Thank You to everyone that send me a message welcoming me to this great site. I just joined a few weeks ago and have already gotten so much off the site. I hope to contribute my own projects/thoughts/whatever comes to mind in the future. Already it’s been a great experience. With that said, I wanted to get some advice on the purchase of a new 14” bandsaw… as my primary tool for making bandsaw boxes, this is the center of my “shopR...

Acquiring new tools #2: Grizzly Planer - PICTURES ADDED

536 days ago by Kevin | 11 comments »

Well, I got it. I bought the 20” Grizzly Planer with the carbide head. Got it home just before the rain and have it mostly put together. Man, there is a lot of oil on those things. I don’t know how many rags I went through trying to get the oil clean off. Then i plugged it in and fired it up, ran well, but threw oil all over the shop. I guess the carbide head holds more oil under the blades than I thought it did. I had wiped it off, but it is hard to do with all the blades in i...

Dust Collection and The Way I'm Doing it.

641 days ago by CedarFreakCarl | 10 comments »

Dust collection has been discussed heavily on this web site. I’m about to discuss or rather explain what I’m doing in my shop. When I originally started building my house back around 1992 I really didn’t even plan for a shop. There were at that time a few of us that ate breakfast at the same little restaurant here in scenic Pelion, SC and during the planning process of building my house the subject came up one morning. I was sitting there talking with Woody, an older fell...

Hi, my name is John and I am a Tool Junkie #1: Grizzly Tent Sale - Muncy PA - Sept 13, 2008

438 days ago by JC | 9 comments »

Where can you buy 1000 (full size) sheets of (nice, waterproof) sandpaper for $1.00? Those were the first things to go; I managed to grab 2 boxes in the frenzy, one box of 150 grit, one of 280… Need a sheet? let me know! At 8:00 Saturday morning, Grizzly Industrial’s annual tent sale in Muncy PA opened their doors. I thought I would check this thing out, and actually got there 15 minutes early thinking I would take a look around before the crowds showed up at 10:00 or so…...

Got an excuse to buy a Riser Block..

41 days ago by Rick Boyett | 8 comments »

A couple of months ago, I bought this bandsaw off Craigslist. It’s a great little Grizzly BS. A couple of weeks ago I bought about 50 bd ft of Black Walnut from a fella at First Monday Trade Days in Canton, TX for only $2.00 a bd ft. (killer deal). I think I forgot how big the opening is for my BS. Looks like I’ll be buying a riser block and new BS blades now. I’m going to use this lumber to build a baby crib..

Grizzly Here I come!!! #2: Dare I say it?

270 days ago by kevin | 8 comments »

Hi everyone. Well we have seen the mighty Grizzly! My mother-in-law, father-in-law, wife and myself all enjoyed a beautiful day in Muncy PA on Saturday. We met some good people at the Grizzly store…hello Jenny, John and Steve! They were all very helpful, both with tool selection and with locating a decent place to eat lunch. The store recently added on a HUGE warehousing division across the street from the main showroom…and I mean HUGE! After much deliberation with John ...

Kitchen Remodel #3: New Saw!! Big wait :-(

605 days ago by SteveV | 8 comments »

I discovered, while building my prototype cabinet, that I need a new tool!! My contractor saw just won’t cut it (sorry for the pun). So after researching the you know what out of the TS market I’ve decided to stick with Grizzly and try their new G0651 (pic below). The only down side to this is I will have to wait 4-6 weeks before these new saws are shipping. This is a real bummer as I’m making progress on this project but to tell you the truth there are really no other...
