Wood Gloat #1 Eucalyptus Tree

122 days ago by scrappy | 7 comments »

Got on line last night and found a Firewood seller in my area. According to the web site, they were supposed to be open. Got off work a little earlier then normal so went to see if I could aquire a couple of pieces for turning. Add says fresh cut and seasoned wood available. Also: cedar, juniper, mesquite, pine, oak, pecan, pear, ana apple woods available. They sell bundles from a full cord all the way down to “one fire size” bundles. Figured this would be a cheep way for me to...

This afternoon went up to the workshop and dressed the rest of the short boards of NGR .. 44 to be exact all 5’ long. Only took a few minutes. LOLHere be the pictures of the boards as they were dressed and stickered as requested by Bob and Blkcherry. Still have around 40 odd longer lengths [ 8’] to dress for the entertainment unit and the two stationary cupboards.. also two book cases.

Update to My - Preface to the Wood Gloat of the day

174 days ago by Karson | 37 comments »

A month and 1/2 ago I posted Preface to my Wood Gloat where I blogged about some maple wood that I got from a sawmill in Delaware. I showed these logs that I saw in the sawmill back in Feb 2007. I asked the sawmill owner to cut of those logs for me. He said no he was going to keep them. Well today I got a phone call from the sawmill owner. He stated that he has closed the mill down and was going to go back to working masonry. I think that the economy and the lack of getting l...

Work(shop) in Progress #9: so, what's the plane?

200 days ago by PurpLev | 27 comments »

I guess this is a tool gloat more than anything. I like hand planing boards, but sometimes, and especially when trying to get a board to a certain thickness (while keeping it straight) I just want to be able to throw the board through an infeed and automate that process. especially since I’m coming up with some projects that require large/long boards to be planed down. so, with a budget in mind, I keep an eye on craigslist from time to time. the only things I’ve seen in my p...

Wood Gloat

541 days ago by Kerux | 4 comments »

Picked up Josh from the last day of school and then dropped by the grounds crew to see if they had cut any tree’s down lately. They did, One HUGE Maple. I can have as much as I want, but I’ve learned to only take a little bit at a time. When I get this stuff turned/roughed out, I’ll go get some more. The crew is really nice, they are so loaded down with fallen tree’s that they are glad to get rid of it. I’ve got my eye on a giant piece that looks very quilted...

I FINALLY BOUGHT A TABLESAW! :-D #1: I FINALLY BOUGHT A TABLE SAW! :-D

592 days ago by Mark D. | 13 comments »

So, after working with a few battery powered tools and some very basic hand tools, I convinced my girlfriend that I could be much more productive, efficient, and accurate with a table saw. The only thing missing now was money… Being low on funds and “in the right place at the right time” I was given an old and very poorly maintained Delta Contractor saw from a friend who’s father recently passed away. In my excitement to get it back to the house and clean it up(th...
