Boxes #1: Making Wine Boxes... Father's Day Gifts

06-23-2007 04:10 PM by gizmodyne | 15 comments »

11th hourAt the last minute I got inspired by Caliper’s gift box. I had bought some quartersawn white oak for such a project but had too much on my plate with the end of the school year. I finished report cards last Friday and decided to work on a gift for my dad and my father in law. I had a gift subscription to Wood Magazine last year. I like their detailed plans but never like the woods they use in their projects. This is from the Dec 2006 Issue. I decided to use walnut and whi...

Balancing Wine Bottle Holder-Sketchup

09-08-2013 01:06 PM by A Slice of Wood Workshop | 1 comment »

During this Sketchup show I go through a balancing wine bottle holder. This has my most recent measurements that I use and also a link for my actual “How to make a wine bottle holder” video. That video was my first ever on YouTube. Check out the Sketchup video HERE.

Puzzles - A Gift Meant To Be Regifted - How To

05-11-2010 02:12 AM by DonW | 3 comments »

Several LJs have asked for a blog entry sharing how I made the mini-puzzles that I use to encourage “re-gifting”. They are really very easy to do for those comfortable with using a scroll saw. Here are the steps… 1. Select the subject of your puzzle. I use business card sized cards that are available at Christian bookstores. They are bright, colorful and have inspiring messages. However, you could do the same project with sports or non-sports trading cards, etc. They woul...

A Keychain is Born ~ 8/30/10 ~ With Video

08-30-2010 10:29 AM by dustynewt | 9 comments »

I must apologize for my lack of interaction here on LumberJocks. I am on the night shift at the paper mill and my neighbors don’t dig the 2:30 am woodworking bit, so I have been limited to my keychain work and ya’ll have seen that. It is my night off and I remembered a couple requests a while back to do a blog on my keychain process. So, here ‘tis! I hope the video comes out right. I’ve been experimenting with my CoolPix. Short videos? I can do that! So I decided to...

Making a Game for $5.00 #1: Starting Out

12-18-2009 02:54 AM by Deela40 | 4 comments »

The Bible study I am a part of is having a party for Christmas. Each person is supposed to bring one gift, spending no more than $5.00. I saw this as a challenge. $5.00 isn’t much and I wanted to offer something of higher value. Lucky for me, my wife recently brought home some free pieces of wood. She works at an art gallery and they were getting rid of some random things. She saw some wood they had used as plaques that were going to be tossed. As she is industrious and thoughtful,...

A Wonderful Gift from a Great Friend

10-17-2011 03:31 PM by Brit | 19 comments »

Last week when I was in Denmark, I popped in to see Mads and after a terrific meal, we spent a few hours talking tools. Time passes quickly when you’re in good company and all too soon it seems, I was on the last train back to my hotel. During the evening Mads presented me with a present – a MAFE original marking knife, which as you can see, came with a smile. Mads made the knife to use Exacto blades, so eventually after many sharpenings, I will be able to replace the blade...

Tansu-shmansu #1: Birthday or xmas gift

03-19-2009 12:32 AM by Pankratio | 9 comments »

So I’ve decided I’m building a tansu-styled cabinet (specifically the step or kaidan tansu style) for my lovely lady. I’ll be documenting the entire process on here until it’s done. Once it’s done, the nearest xmas or her birthday (march 8th) will become the ‘occasion’ for this gift. I like that deadline.

Marquetry Serving Tray #1: Introduction/Design

05-24-2014 11:50 PM by jmartel | 1 comment »

My mom approached me about doing something for my father for Father’s day. Only requirements were that it was to be something for their boat, and that it have the boat’s name on it. Other than that, I had complete creative freedom. I came up with the serving tray idea since they frequently prepare food down in the galley and have to bring it to the back deck for eating, and they currently just use some plastic serving tray. For the design, I decided that a prominent Compass ...

Wooden iPad Case (Christmas Gift)

01-07-2012 06:40 AM by Ryan Haasen | 1 comment »

Just thought I’d post this unique christmas gift I got; A bamboo wood iPad case. My brother got an Ipad 2 so he gave me his old one, which is in brand-new condition. The case looks great but boy was it a hassle to get on. It was too tight and would not fit. Heres my thoughts on why this is: I’m guessing it was made in a more humid environment, and when it was made, it fit perfectly. But when it was shipped to Canada, a more dry climate, it shrunk slightly. Anyhow, I ma...

Someone wanted to be cursed, someone needed to be nursed

05-31-2011 10:38 AM by Sodabowski | 18 comments »

Well today the postsman took me out of bed with an unexpected parcel. Having nothing pending from ebay, I was wondering WTH it was and whom it could come from. At first sight, something a bit heavy, tightly packed in bubblewrap. Okay let’s open that box. And then… GAH! Mads strikes again! And now I see why he had told me that I would curse him hahaha :D This old chap really needs some caring, everything is rusted, even the bolts inside the handles. No problem, I ha...
