Hey Guys & Gals! A quick video showing building a picture frame for mothers day. Really just an excuse to get out into the workshop. Sorry if you have alrady seen this ( I have already posted this as a project when I decided I wanted to blog this) ENJOY!
My wife has been sick the last few days, so I stayed home from work to tend to her. Every now and then I would go out to the shop and get a little done while she slept. I had started back on the dovetails and am near finished. This is one of the largest box frames I have dovetailed by hand. Pairing and rasping to clear the saw marks. The dozuki might not have much kerf but my hands wander a little while I saw. Not being able to see well doesn’t help either. Then the mail ca...
My Eldest daughter seems to have a knack of finding some very apropos gifts. This birthday I got a “T” shirt and a wall sign. Both of them are handyman oriented. Thanks Karrie
Here I sit, on a cloudy, cool, uninspiring day in the Mojave Desert and Momma comes in from the mailbox. And Says, “Who do you know in Scotland?” “GEE, JAMIE!” I hollered. I cut the package open and ….................looky here at what I got! A beautiful piece of burl made it across the big pond. Now my mind is racing and searching for the inspiration for a project that will impress Jamie. All that comes to mind is Mafe! Where are you when I need you? lo...
Last Friday was special day for me. A fellow Lumberjock and his girlfriend, dropped in on us for a visit. David (FaTToaD) and Meredith went back east for the holidays and came home loaded down with goodies. We had a good visit (for my part anyway, I couldn’t shut up long enough for him to say much) lol and it was a pleasure meeting Meredith. Note to David; She’s a keeper. When he left, he gave me some Tupelo gum boards to see what I thought of them. When I figure out what I want to ...
GI will take this opportunity to thank my dear friend David for a lovely lovely lovely Christmas gift. David has sent me a Ryobi jigsaw- to help me along in my woodworking struggles. This lovely newfangled device will replace? Or just push aside the VERY ANCIENT craftsman jigsaw that my sister found in the trash in Las Vegas and gave to me. So I am terribly excited and very grateful to my friend! Hugs and kisses to you David! Now I am going to pack up a little box to send to David t...
Here’s a picture of what my wife got me for Christmas… this gift was based on advice from Steve Ramsey's video for the spouses of woodworkers on gifts. Great Big Thanks to Steve!!!! (BTW, Steve’s Blog site Woodworking for Mere Mortals is great fun and, once in a while, actually informative grin; Be sure to sign up to follow his blog!) Anyway, on to the gift! A very nice S4S piece of Cocobolo, about 1.2 bdft! Don’t know what I’m going to make with th...
I just had to take a brief moment to share with my friends here on Lumber Jocks a gift I recieved this year for Christmas. Folk who know me personally can attest I don’t find myself lost for words very often. This Christmas I opened a gift that honestly choked me up. As I mentioned in my latest project (Cornerstone) my Father In-Law has from the beginning supported me as far as my woodwork goes. He knew I have had a crazed desire to get my hands on some old hand planes, restore them,...
Well, I was out in the shop yesterday when my lovely bride walked in holding a package for me that was just delivered. Then I remembered all the harassing text messages I sent to my favorite coon ass Cozmo35 asking for a chisel mallet (I don’t know the technical name for it so that is what it was referred to as…lol). You see, he lucked up on a good deal on a lathe. Well, me being the good friend I am wanted to be sure he had some projects to keep him busy. After all…. isn...
I’m SO new to woodworking that nearly EVERY project has me back at the bottom of some learning curve or another. I rarely get to fall back on skills that I’ve learned well, used often, and perfected. And … when I leave glitches in my projects, making ME think I earned a grade of “B+” or “A-,” I always wonder …. What if I did that project again. Would I get an “A?” So …. I’m making my wife a box, based on the ...
