http://we-wood.us/collections/collection I find these quite cool. Don’t know how long they would hold up though. They purport to plant a tree for each sold. —Dallas
The following link is a video that I posted on YouiTube. The project is an easy quick gift for far away friends. Hope you try this and enjoy the project. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufuxQyU6oKs
Calling this a woodworking project would be a gross overstatement, but if you’d like to bring a smile to the face of your own – or other children, it doesn’t get much quicker or easier than this. The photo below shows a few of the two dozen or so small tops I made from wheels and dowels ‘left-over’ from the small race cars I made for our club’s Christmas toy drive. They could be made any number of ways, but here’s how I did it. I chucked a dowel into my portable drill that was snug...
.. and it dates from this very evening. Hey everybody. I’ve bin bitten to the bone by the pen turning bug, as some of you already know. Here’s the latest one. No, wait… I actually made four more after this one. Anyway. I took no shots of the turning – but I have plans to rebuild version 2 of the homemade pen lathe next month, and to include an iPhone stand to shoot still & video while turning and finishing. When sewing the pouch, it hit me and I grabbed my ...
Last week when I was in Denmark, I popped in to see Mads and after a terrific meal, we spent a few hours talking tools. Time passes quickly when you’re in good company and all too soon it seems, I was on the last train back to my hotel. During the evening Mads presented me with a present – a MAFE original marking knife, which as you can see, came with a smile. Mads made the knife to use Exacto blades, so eventually after many sharpenings, I will be able to replace the blade...
Well today the postsman took me out of bed with an unexpected parcel. Having nothing pending from ebay, I was wondering WTH it was and whom it could come from. At first sight, something a bit heavy, tightly packed in bubblewrap. Okay let’s open that box. And then… GAH! Mads strikes again! And now I see why he had told me that I would curse him hahaha :D This old chap really needs some caring, everything is rusted, even the bolts inside the handles. No problem, I ha...
The project is not made of exotic wood. It is not a complicated piece of furniture. It does not have sophisticated joinery. It is finished only with house paint. Normally, I would consider a project like this to be a simple throw away project made for the fun of it but not very important at all. This time was very different though. It would be turn out to be the most important project of my life. The project was commissioned by my six year old daughter, Jacqueline. She came t...
I’m a relative newcomer to woodworking having really only had the opportunity to experience it when I was in high school “shop” class. I remember using the radial arm saw, bandsaw, stationary sander, and especially the lathe which I haven’t purchased yet but would love to have one day. Yesterday I had to have surgery to repair a torn miniscus in my left knee so all my projects now are just in my head. Today was also my wife’s birthday but I haven’t been ...
I haven’t had much time to devote to shop projects for a couple weeks. Work and life still a little too chaotic for the moment. I did, however, have a bit of good fortune with an unexpected gift of wood. I had a childhood friend contact me on facebook and let me know that he had some “branches” he had pruned off of his Black Walnut tree and I could have what I wanted. Not one to turn down free wood, I investigated and found the branches were 3 12-15 foot sections that were a...
