Surrounded by Wood and Snow --RusticWoodArt

279 days ago by frank | 10 comments »

Surrounded by Wood and Snow ....and so once again the gods said; ”let there be snow” and on the second day of the new year there was…. Up here in New England I sometimes wonder if I’m being ‘snowed in’ or ‘snowed out’? I don’t have a lot of extra time this morning as I’m soon out the door, after some breakfast….to get this place opened up. Now some may wonder what’s the difference to being ‘snowed in’...

The final act… Buffing the final coat of finish is the moment of birth for a project. After that it is carefully wrapped and delivered to start its’ life with family, friend, or client. One part of the woodworking process that most of us don’t figure in is the photography. I can tell you from experience that this a very important part of furniture making. It is not an option if you are planning on doing woodworking and furniture as a business, be it full or part time....

The Best of 'Wood Art" #9: "Prepping the Wood" --by RusticWodArt

281 days ago by frank | 4 comments »

....furthering my ganders, as one would take on examining their progress in the principles of what it take to work the wood by hand! Some-times it does my soul best to just stop and take an inventory of what is happening here with the tools and the wood. Many are the stages of phases that go into the making of a piece of ‘wood art’....design, working the wood by hand, but there all-ways is the need to pay attention to the care and detail of my tools and wood. Further Notes on: ...

The Best of 'Wood Art" #8: "Expressions of Wood Milieu" --by RusticWoodArt

282 days ago by frank | 4 comments »

Expressions of Wood Milieu ....continuing on the journey here with wood ripping gusto, is soon found to be a harmony of the joys of hand to wood, only separated by the fine steel blade of my 13” 9TPI pull handsaw. No-dust collection system needed here, no-dangers of kickback, no-need to break my bank savings, no-need for ear protection, (although one would want to wear eye protection) no-wondering about the what if’s when certain thoughts cross the mind of the male populatio...

"Wood Weathered Friends" --by RusticWoodArt

286 days ago by frank | 6 comments »

Wood Weathered Friends ....beauty is my way of giving thanks, and drinking deeply from the circumstances of life that surround me. Where I to walk into a room, beauty would fade back into shadows of after-space….but, upon my passing through and beyond, beauty is able to re-focus and splay her-self as an example of the fine Lady she is. Of all the tales of wood that I have learned, there is no-thing that compares with the first taste of abundant life that springs forth, in that ...

"Still Surrounded by Wood...." by RusticWoodArt

288 days ago by frank | 8 comments »

Still Surrounded by Wood…. ....even after some multiple snows. And so life is good, living and working out in the elements of all seasons, while giving back to the wild of the land, some thoughts on imaging that have of recent days come my way. I had stated in my last blog story that the time of green picture images had come to an end, as I was being shifted now to a time of posting over the coming months, pictures of white granular icy snow. Snow falls following the downward pull...

The Craftsman's Path #20: Queen Anne Side Table - More leg shaping

289 days ago by Mark Mazzo | 3 comments »

I was out of town last weekend for a family wedding so, progress on the table was stalled a bit. I got some more time in the shop yesterday and went to work shaping the legs for the table toward their final state. I had started this process before my trip but, I was not quite happy with some parts of the effort. The trip away allowed me to think about how I wanted to approach making changes for the better. You can read about my progress at my blog where there are a lot of pictures of the ...

The Best of 'Wood Art" #6: "Defining Design in Wood" --by RusticWoodArt

297 days ago by frank | 6 comments »

Defining Design in Wood ....and so I continue finding the numbers that can be assembled out of 2’‘x4’‘x96’’, or as I have now come to see as (2) re-sawed wood pieces of 1’‘x4’‘x96’’.... Designs are the dreams I write//draw on paper, after imagination has come back, from where she flies in the lofty clouded skies of inspiration. No-idea of where this one was going, when I started this one….just let my hands go ...

"Teller of Life’ as I Now Live Wood" --by RusticWoodArt #8: "Stories of Wood That Yearn"

298 days ago by frank | 2 comments »

Stories of Wood That Yearn ”....tis in the sliding of the barn door’s opening, that the eye of man meets those other’s, who have heard the news, that often what is sold as wood, be-comes the more of what is worked as art....” Often now the mornings are getting colder and so I find myself coming out here earlier to start the fire in the belly of my beast, as I prepare the tools that the ‘old timer’ will be using today. Tools come in many forms shapes a...
