Surrounded by Wood and Snow --RusticWoodArt

322 days ago by frank | 10 comments »

Surrounded by Wood and Snow ....and so once again the gods said; ”let there be snow” and on the second day of the new year there was…. Up here in New England I sometimes wonder if I’m being ‘snowed in’ or ‘snowed out’? I don’t have a lot of extra time this morning as I’m soon out the door, after some breakfast….to get this place opened up. Now some may wonder what’s the difference to being ‘snowed in’...

4th (Final) Update on the St. Anthony Hymn Number Board

473 days ago by Mark A. DeCou | 10 comments »

This week, I’ve been finishing up the Hymn Number Board for the St. Anthony Catholic church in Strong City, KS. Final assembly, glue, number plate holders, stain, finish, and gold-powder painting, and it is all finished now, ready for delivery to the church on Saturday. This is my Original Design, and it looks nothing like anything I have seen before, although it has design elements of things I have built in the past. I built it to match the other furnishings of the St. Anthony chu...

Outdoor "Coffee" Table #2: Next (baby) steps

492 days ago by Dorje | 10 comments »

I picked the wood I’m going to use for this project; I’m going to go with Lyptus. I should get down to the lumber store sometime this week… Also, I made some drawings of the top, side, and end. Drawings really are limiting! I’d like to draw this in sketchup, but can barely remember how to draw a rectangle. Actually I can draw a rectangle, but don’t even know how to type in the dimensions I want rather than have to drag the exact distance!!! (Bob Babc...

Colors of Shellac from a Kayak ….where art thou going oh gods of kayaking,“i go out in the tops of mountain ponds”,who is the one that you paddle along with by your side,“i paddle with the love of my heart who longs with me….” ”—-and so i turned the page to write again some words of wood—-” ....and so the gods came down to play amongst a colored backdrop, completed with water that still holds dreams of blue liquid desire,...

"Hobbit Holes in MyWorld" --by RusticWoodArt #11: "Two Maples....One Pine and, ...."

182 days ago by frank | 9 comments »

Two Maples….One Pine, and…. ....so i stepped outside to the wonders of an outdoor workshop, where some trees where culling my name, having not much time to pass with endless chatter, i reached down and turned my cell-phone off…. —-silence….. ....and so i went up last week and payed my respects to an old friend, one much wiser then me in all the ways of wood, who welcomed me back since our meeting of last fall, while even now this one is busy in the givin...

3rd Update on the Hymn Number Stand

478 days ago by Mark A. DeCou | 9 comments »

I had a nice weekend. Saturday I worked with a local cabinet maker helping him catch up on his schedule. We are nearly finished with the 3rd kitchen cabinet job, and then he will be caught up. I think I have worked about 8-9 days this summer with him on Saturdays. Sunday was relaxing, went to church and then home with the family, and a nap. A nap makes a lot of things better for some reason (not to take anything away from church). Today, Monday, I have the Hymn Number Board just abo...

An Introduction of Wood Happenings So it’s that time again….and if you’ve spent any amount of time around here at LJ; last spring, summer and fall then you must know by now, some-what as to my occasional excursions into the forests and woods of New England. This year I have decided to re-name and post under a continuation of short story ‘series’ and so I will be calling these posted blog stories….”Hobbit Holes in MyWorld”. J. R. R. Tolkien on...

"Still Surrounded by Wood...." by RusticWoodArt

331 days ago by frank | 8 comments »

Still Surrounded by Wood…. ....even after some multiple snows. And so life is good, living and working out in the elements of all seasons, while giving back to the wild of the land, some thoughts on imaging that have of recent days come my way. I had stated in my last blog story that the time of green picture images had come to an end, as I was being shifted now to a time of posting over the coming months, pictures of white granular icy snow. Snow falls following the downward pull...
