Another Milestone
I am pretty excited to share with you guys today’s progress. I got all of the handle pieces finished!
Next I have some touch up on the doors and the final install. I am sure I will have a full day of technical sweating.
I had to brush the pieces again on the wire wheel to brighten the finish. I then hung them from the ceiling and wiped them down thoroughly with acetone. This strips any oil from the surface.

Well, I am finally graduating to furniture. I intend to blog the journey in this series to share what I learn in the transition from small boxes to full size furniture. I’ve done large projects before but furniture is sort of the ‘holy grail’ of woodworking, in my mind. It is what I would really like to do (if I could afford the lumber). By the way, my mom’s birthday is June 21st (we will see how close I get to the the deadline.)

The final act…
Buffing the final coat of finish is the moment of birth for a project. After that it is carefully wrapped and delivered to start its’ life with family, friend, or client.
One part of the woodworking process that most of us don’t figure in is the photography. I can tell you from experience that this a very important part of furniture making. It is not an option if you are planning on doing woodworking and furniture as a business, be it full or part time....

I have been fascinated with The Fibonacci Sequence and The Golden Rectangle for some time. I finally got around to building a Fibonacci Gauge that was featured in WOOD Magazine.
The guage maintains a consatnt proportion of 1:1.618 between the points. It is used to help determine visually appealing proportional dimensions. I am looking forward to using the guage in future projects.

Drupes and Drupaceous Nuts as Tung Oil
So lets cut to the center of the fruit….like cutting to the quick, and talk about China Wood Oil, wood nut oil or just plain ‘tung oil’. I had decided to spend the month of November not posting to lumberjocks, so that I could get some work done in the shop. But, I was given some good news today, and given the link to the photos I will show below, so I decided to “speak” again.

This very large, commissioned credenza was designed as an entertainment center to sit below a big, wall mounted, plasma TV. It is 76” wide 24-1/2” deep, and 34” tall. The cabinet and base are all solid walnut and the doors are bookmatched walnut burl veneers both inside and out.

Reflections on Beavers and Trees
Out here in the woods, I am part of a whole picture where what happens with wood….also happens to all involved with wood, plus those un-in-volved with wood….hmmm, are any who are really non-existent from wood? I’m in the midst of finishing up a project I have really enjoyed. Sure, it has taken me two times the hours I bid, but I am happy with the result. Actually, it has come out better than I expected, which is always a nice surprise.
This is a functional-art piece I wish I wasn’t selling, to be honest. But, I have already spent all of the down payment. So, giving the money back is not possible, so the customer will get her desk.
