Well Guys, I finally had an opportunity to sit down and edit a video that Brian Havens and I shot before he jetted back to his home in California. We had a great time working together on this project and it did well to support a local Billings organization that serves the developmentally disabled community. I also want to mention that a local LumberJock MTBrian also helped out and it was a good thing he helped what he did because we barely, just BARELY made it in time to the auction as ...
Well, I have been away for the computer for the last three days, we held a fundraiser in the small town of Marble Falls Texas, which has a population of around 5,000 for an employee that has been battling lung cancer and away from work for the past eight months. I built the Dancing Clock for the silent auction and there were many other donations from the community as well. The employee’s younger brother was the high bidder on the clock and he gave it to his brother. To date we have raised ...
De’ja’ vu Last year I built a Shaker Bench for one of our favorite local charities. I was not going to make the deadline and Brian Havens flew out at a moment’s notice to help me build & deliver the bench just in time to be fashionably late rather than just late. (See blog entry here at LJ.) This year I started my project a couple of weeks early but things did not go as smoothly as I would have liked on the project nor my schedule. As a professional contractor my s...
A few weeks ago Al Navas shared a very nice idea with me. He was touched by a case of one of our fellow LumberJocks – Henrie Schumacher – and he decided to help Schumie to realize his dream to do some woodworking once again… Henrie’s background:Schummie (Henrie) lives in The Netherlands. He is married, has a wonderful wife, and three wonderful children, two boys and one girl. He was a policeman, until tragic events on the job forever changed his life. Henrie is physically...
My wife, Rita, manages a daily program that keeps adults with developmental disabilities busy. She works personally with these individuals and we see first hand how this program enriches the lives of the participants and their families. Most of them are affected by down syndrome. We choose to support this program every year with donations for the fundraising auction. This year I donated the red bamboo sofa table. This was originally made with the intention of it being a donation. ...
Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk for the Cure: Items to Build for Fundraiser #1: What items to build for fundraising auction?
My wife will be traveling out to San Diego in the middle of November to participate in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure walk. In order to be an entrant, she has to raise several thousand dollars through donations. One of her coworkers is planning a fundraising event to be held at a local restaurant sometime next month. There will be an auction at the event, with all the proceeds going directly to the walkathon. I would like to build a few things that can be auctioned-off to help ra...
