I have been revamping and upgrading the American School of French Marquetry website lately and we just launched a forum for everyone to use post and ask questions or help others in this fields.As any Forum we need people to start and to make this forum an alive place. Notes on French polishing

Why French polish? For about a third of the projects I do, there is usually one surface that I like to do what I call a “guitar” finish. That is, perfectly flat, clear and shiny. As in, how most guitars are finished. The hunt for chatoyancy . And I have tried every path I could find to achieve that just short of spraying nc lacquer, which I am not going to bother with. I have been reading about French Polishing for some time now and finally dedicated the beginning of my thanksgiving break to finding a good source for how to apply this classical finish. Shellac is a very finicky finish and is hard to REALY get right. Although this site is for guitars it seems to be and excellent guide to French Polishing.

I have to admit, since I finished with the actual woodworking part of my wife's box, and presented it to her, I’ve barely thought about it. But the box isn’t finished yet (literally), so I’d better press on to the end. So here’s my question for you: how would you finish the box?
