Shop Projects, how “Nice” should they be?

02-10-2018 05:56 AM by IantheTinker | 31 comments »

I am building an outfeed table for my table Saw, just a short one to extend over the outboard motor. Then I will hinge a folding table onto the end of the short one. I am doing this to save on dedicated space while allowing options for assembling s9me larger upcoming projects. My only issue is that I keep gett8ng hung up on how nice these things need to look. I see the guys on the YouTubes making these really nice outfeed table with melamine surfaces and oak trim and whatnot. I am on a seriou...

Folding Brass Meter Rule

07-16-2013 11:02 AM by Dave Rutan | 2 comments »

I have a weakness for brass tools, though it’s usually tempered by my budget. I found this folding brass meter rule on eBay and happened to have the funds, so I snapped it up. There is no maker’s mark on it anywhere. I also have a hard time figuring how it was effectively used. Whereas our Lufkin brand folding rulers stay rigid when unfolded, the meter rule has very loose joints. It’s like trying to measure with a piece of chain. I guess in a moment of desperation you cou...

This is a very simple table to make. It would be good for camping as they fold down to about 2” thick. You can do it with whatever scraps are in your shop.

Craftsman Desk and Bed

01-17-2012 02:22 AM by Chris Davis | 0 comments »

I posted a couple projects and wanted a place to compile both the building pictures. Both the desk and the Murphy bed were a project to the same customer. It was a challenging project because of its size. I finishing phase had to be done in two sets of two days. If not pieces would be everywhere. The bed had it’s own challenges. It was the first time to put a desk in a mission style. The customer did come up with a design that would work, but I needed to figure out all the...

DIY Folding Sawhorses Video- A How-to

12-23-2010 01:39 AM by Sailor | 5 comments »

Here are some folding sawhorses that I built a few months back and added them as a project. I had recorded the building process but was unable to get the files off of my camera to edit them due to a lost software, but I bought a new software so here is the video! You can find some more information like the cutting layout, dimensions, hardware and some more detailed photos on my blog, The Woodworking Trip. I really like these sawhorses and I have built myself two sets. One that I use...
