Today was the last day of my career as a Sr. Quality Engineer for a medical device manufacturer. This day has been a long time time coming, and it brought up a lot of mixed emotions.I am now a professional in the field of furniture repair and restoration. My son Tommy and I have gone into business together and purchased a Furniture Medic franchise.We will be traveling to Memphis in June for training, and our shingle goes up June 23.Wish us luck!

The frame is easy to make out of pine, fir or any soft wood. We want to make it look precision yet old at the same time. The hardest part is convincing the sun to age your project for you 2000 years in about a few days time. The sun owed me for a few sunburns soooo… Just kidding, we’ll get to the aging part later.I remembered a frame I had seen at the museum in grade school. Out fellow Jock and Pen Turner Nils tells me the box has made it to him in California! He’ll get us some pics soon of the bounty he received.
This is our final stop on this tour – after Nils it’s back to me in Georgia. We’re already prepping for Round 2 so keep it in mind if you’d like to join us.

Since I don’t have one of those fancy japanese saw blades with no set, I sanded the keys off with 100 grit (being careful to stop before touching the box), then taking the rest off with 150 grit and finishing the entire box with 220. Of course, I decided to take it one step further, and I went over it again very gently with 320 grit. I then did a quick vacuuming of my work area, and got things prepared.

So here is the entry of my pull out trash can box thing where i show the finish. due to prefinishing i have already done most of the finishing and put some parts together so i figured i would show that now. and then next week i will probably have the finished project up. so to start of course i sanded the piece to 180. i would not recommend using sycamore with hand tools. it doesn’t work well at all, and its hard to tell which way the grain is running. dovetails are really hard with syc...

well here is the final post in my pull out trash box thing series. figure i’ll get right into it.
first i started by adding some 45 blocks to the place where the trash can sits. i had to notch it because that drilling would have been pretty hard without a drill press. i notched it a bit to much though. and i used brass screws. why? because they were the only ones that were short enough to not go through my surface. but to sound smart just in-case someone missed the bucket its good th...

So now its time for the grand finale, a finish that really brings this piece to life. through some test piece and some inspiration (thanks to this woodworker) I began to dye some piece with some general finishes dyes. When i first put the Vintage Cherry Water based Dye Stain on the mahogany i knew i had a winner. It might be hard to see in these pictures but it really brings out the beauty in Mahogany.
