From the Workbench of T-Chisel
Well the boiled linseed oil has been applied and allowed to cure. This next video introduces you to my finish guy, Mark Libby. Mark has 25 years experience in the finishing industry. Mark begins finishing this Slant Top Tiger Maple Desk by gently sanding and then begins to build up finish with layers of shellac (70:30 mix) with an HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) sprayer. Stay tuned for the next video in the series when we apply the final coats of finish, a...

My son Tommy and I have gone into business together and purchased a Furniture Medic franchise. We will be traveling to Memphis in June for training, and our shingle goes up June 23.Wish us luck!

Well folks!
It’s finally done!
This took a little longer than expected, because of the weather, & things.
It’s amazing that it looks just like the SketchUp plan, but I think a tad better looking though.
My Son, & his family really love it.
It’s almost like a new room on their house.
I also learned about the new way of staining treated lumber.
They don’t recommend letting it dry out for 60 to 90 days.
They say that if you treat it right a...

This is a Lumberjocks exclusive video!
Thank you so much for the warm welcome to this truly great woodworking community.
Hey guys the cameras are rolling once again in my shop. Al and I have a great conversation regarding finishing considerations for this awesome slant top maple desk. If you have seen any other videos from my shop, you wont be disappointed. Trust me, a little humor goes a long way to break up monotony in the shop and keep spirits elevated . . . especially with the ex...

A person can spend a lot of time on a carving, but after the final cut with your chisel,
you don’t really know what all of the chiseling you’ve done really looks like.
You have to choose a finish that will enhance your carving.
On some carvings I use a stain, others, just a clear finish, it all depends on the theme, or type of wood you’re using.
I’ve chosen some images of my mining scene to show you the difference of before, & after.

Here are some more pictures of my progress for you.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Sawing the Fonts, & backs of the drawers.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I drilled holes at the drawer bottoms, because of the short sawing radius.

I’ve got a smile from ear to ear. We finally took a ride and picked out the cushions and material for the chair today. Suzanne should get started Monday or Tuesday. I may have a finished chair by next weekend.
I’ve tested out some different combinations for the cushions and decided on 5” of high density foam with 2” of a softer foam on top for the seat, The back will be 5” of soft foam. Each will be wrapped in batting to soften the edge.
I’m looking ...

This is a video follow-up from a previous text entry (Episode #71 - Shellac, Can You Make the Cut?) on my blog The Folding Rule. Tag along with me in the shop and you will see that in fact you can “make the cut” and add this fascinating finish to your shop reportaire. This episode covers mixing shellac from dry flakes (1# cut amber shellac) and reducing a premixed cut to a thinner cut (1/2# cut spit coat).
Download a nifty shellac chart for your shop and consider using shell...

A few of us her at LJ that turn pens decided to get together and swap some of goodies. We’ve started a package moving around the country (actually, around North America – we dip into Canada as well!) containing 5 turned pens, 5 pen kits and 5 blanks.
Here’s a map to show where we’re located and where our pens will travel:
When each Jock gets the package he’ll go through it and decide what he wants to take from it, he can take all or nothing but… what...
