DIY Table Saw Fence #1: Table Saw Fence

12-10-2007 07:21 AM by Hutch | 271 comments »

This is my old tablesaw fence. It is a little hard to see from the photo, but I cracked it trying to “micro-adjust” it. So I started to look for an aftermarket fence, of which there are some really nice ones out there. I just didn’t want to spend quite as much as they were asking because I have a previously owned Central Machinery tablesaw. I also was curious to see if I could come up with my own fence. I was worried about two things with most diy fence systems that...

Router Table #1: Design ideas, need some feedback

02-18-2009 09:44 PM by PurpLev | 43 comments »

OK, so yeah – another blog about a router table, but since I’m going to make one , might as well document it while I go, maybe someone can benefit from this. I’ve had a Rockler router table top + plate + fence which I got when I bought my router (Bosch 2 1/4hp). It had the misfurtune of being on the floor when my basement was flooded a couple of years ago, so that top was ruined. I since have been planning to replace it with a shop-built version, and make a full enclosed ...

Router Table #12: The Good the Bad and the Ugly... New Fence Arrived

01-31-2010 02:07 AM by PurpLev | 22 comments »

I saw an ad on craigslist for a Jointech 12” router fence positioner which is similar to the Incra LS positioner -has a lead screw, and has what Incra sells as add on – the “wonder fence” as the standard fence. the guy posted it as used, but at what Jointech is selling it NEW… I contacted the person trying to negotiate a win-win situation. that was 2 weeks ago. the jointech fence is still on craigslist. I just couldn’t justify his price for a fence I’...

New Shop in the Raw #5: "Uni" = One - a very heavy one

12-12-2015 02:55 AM by builtinbkyn | 14 comments »

After considering asking some friends to come help me move the Unisaw and drop it from the furniture cart to the floor, which was a total of five inches, I decided to take this task on myself. I have no doubt they would have had no issue in doing so, but I figured I’d save everyone involved the risks of crushed toes, fingers and the possibility of a hernia. The saw cabinet and top probably weigh in at about 525lbs or so. Besides it’s close to the holiday and I’m sure they...

Work(shop) in Progress #7: New Table Saw: Phenolic Zero Clearance Inserts and Fence Faces for Ridgid R4511

03-29-2009 07:11 AM by PurpLev | 13 comments »

So, New Saw, New Zero Clearance Inserts are due! Actually I was planning on working my the Bead Box, but wanted to fine tune the table saw, and ‘get it done’ first, and so, the plan was to use the 5/8” phenolic (not phenolic plywood) panel that I got (I got a 1-3/8” phenolic panel to use as a router table top, and while at it, picked up some ‘lighter’ thinner panels as well, for inserts, plates, etc). I figured – I already have it, and might as wel...

Simple Band Saw Fence

11-01-2012 03:37 AM by arco21 | 12 comments »

I decided it was high time I quit clamping a piece of wood to my bandsaw table whenever I needed a fence, and upgraded to something more easily adjustable. Based on a design for a drill press fence in a recent Woodsmith Small Shops book, I came up with this cleat style fence. I used 2×4’s for the front and back rails, putting the 45 degree angle on them with my table saw. I bolted them to the existing threads on my bandsaw’s fence. The fence is a piece of cherry, and t...

Work(shop) in Progress #16: Incra 998SE Miter Gauge

08-20-2008 04:42 AM by PurpLev | 11 comments »

So I am building a box frame using box-joints. I have my Incra 1000SE miter gauge setup with the stop block to cut the side pieces to length, and I’m all done with that. Time to cut the box joints. So I swap the blade on the table saw with my new (only used once before) Dado blade, I attach my homemade high fence for making box joints onto the Incra 1000 fence, and I’m ready to start cutting. If you’ve followed the details up to this point – you might have ...
