Better Home for Each LumberJock

534 days ago by Martin Sojka | 28 comments »

You can finally enjoy the result of my latest work. We got MUCH IMPROVED personal home pages here on the LumberJocks as well as better organization of the profile and account editing. The former personal homes were not visually appealing and displayed only minimal amount of content. On the other hand, new ones have rich 3-column layout with lots of info about you and your activity on LumberJocks. I believe they represent something you can be proud of and are worth sharing with your friends...

MAJOR NEWS: New Reviews Section!

362 days ago by Martin Sojka | 27 comments »

Woo hoo… it’s time to introduce another great new feature on our site. The idea of having separate LumberJocks section for posting reviews has been bouncing around in many discussions recently. I finally decided to turn it into reality this weekend. There was lots of brainstorming involved during recent weeks because I wanted to be sure that the system will automatically guide you when posting the review of the product that was already reviewed by other jock(s). This system ens...

Mini-Browser or Asset Manager on Steroids

575 days ago by Martin Sojka | 24 comments »

I know we all love fancy time-savers.. don’t we? How would you love accessing your pictures or videos (maintained on the third party dedicated sites) directly below the text area when writing your loooong blog entry, project story or even new comment. Well, now this is possible here on the LumberJocks through our embedded mini-browser. You don’t need to open new window to paste in that picture anymore – do it 5 times per post and you’ll see how tedious this can be ;...

Autosaving Drafts - No Need to Be Nervous Anymore

491 days ago by Martin Sojka | 22 comments »

It happened multiple times in past… and probably to you as well, at least once. You spent 15 minutes typing long and meaningful blog entry only to lose it. Right before hitting Submit button your browser crashed or you lost internet connection or something else happened. I’m sure you didn’t want to type it again. It’s frustrating and demotivating. No need to be nervous anymore. I’ve integrated autosave feature into the most important forms on the site ̵...

Enhanced Picture Viewer

460 days ago by Martin Sojka | 21 comments »

As Bill noticed I have upgraded our picture viewer. Problem with the prev and next buttons was that they were not always on the same place and you had to hover the image to see them. To enhance the usability I’ve moved these two buttons together with the close button to the new separate toolbar at the top of the page. Enjoy!

Blog Tags and Topic Tags are Here!

638 days ago by Martin Sojka | 17 comments »

Blog entries and forum topics are now taggable too. Tags are becoming more and more important as the content on the LumberJocks is growing exponentially. Essentially they are like descriptive keywords attached to each project, blog entry or forum topic. They help to make it easier for you to find the content you’re interested in. I’ve also redesigned the Tags page. Now it have three subpages – projects, blogs and forums. On each of them you can see the respective most pop...

464 days ago by Martin Sojka | 8 comments »

As many of you noticed, our search results were becoming cluttered by the Store pages. Why stop with the research… I upgraded the search on our site and included following refinements: Forums Projects Blog entries Store All except store By default, search runs across all of the sections and pages. If you want more specific results just click on t...
