This is the interesting bit. First the top, the easier part?! I cut the centre sections out of the four Padauk strips. Book matched them, mitred them and glued up the above square. Yes I know theres a hole in it. I forgot to take the picture before I started the ‘boring’ bit. That’s just the Foo Fighter’s track playing endlessly in my head ATM. Good enough title though. Anyways up when the triangles are glued up and re-arranged you get this. When you re-saw them you get this I glued and taped the re-saws using a technique David (Patron) calls a glue joint. Put glue on one piece of the joint. As I said in the project post…. In 1969 a group call King Crimson recorded an album called Court of the Crimson King. This box is named after the title track. As well as the King himself there are several other characters in the song including; the Purple Piper, the Yellow Jester and the Black Queen. I have been struggling for many years to design a box which features all of these. Michelletwo came up with the inspiration in her Color project post. The slots in this form are ideal...

First the wood Top is the Sycamore for the 1st shell, drum sanded to 2.5mm thick. Right is the Padauk. As is usual I source my solid timber from turning blanks (I can’t afford large pieces, especially ebony) this does limit the size of box I generally make. What I do is book match, doubling the width available, in this case to 100mm. on the left are the veneers. The black is ready supplied dyed Birch at 0.5mm thick.
