A Bed for the Princess #1: Design Concept

213 days ago by PurpLev | 4 comments »

So for a very long time I have been planning to build my daughter a bed. I have been reading anything I could get about bed construction (I really liked “Anatomy of a Bed” from Fine Woodworking), checking out different beds for design concepts, and construction methods, and have been mentally practicing building it for the longest time. so I finally came up with the following design. frame is all Maple, joinery is Mortise & Tenon and headboard/footboard panels are planne...

Project - Chunky Boxes #3: Milling the Lumber part 2

434 days ago by Dekker | 0 comments »

At the end of my last blog entry for this project, I had my pieces rough milled. Well, since then I have given the sides of the boxes its 30’ miter, and used my recently-tuned miter saw to cut the sides with nice clean miters. As you may have guessed, I make many of these tables. The practice is needed, and the combinations of woods make it very interesting. These were all made from the plexiglass templates shown. By using these templates, I can make these tops very quickly. I also have other shapes that are more complicated, which I’ll post at another time. Lee

"Birds Eye Maple" --by RusticWoodArt

Birds Eye Maple ....well just a short blog story today as I’m heading out soon to get my butt in high gear. I’ve been keeping busy around the shop lately with the many projects of woodworking as come my way, a counter top in process, some pieces, (actually three) of furniture and then there’s that three legged piece of maple that I have put up on the third floor of the barn-shop that has started whispering my name for attention. Why just yesterday there I was up on the...
