So after much research and debates, I have finally charged the card, and 2 days later the delivery arrived with the new saw in the box (I opted to have it delivered from the store as opposed to pick it up myself – at 450lbs, I simply wouldn’t be able to unload it myself) Delivery from HD was swift and smooth, positive and friendly guy stop at my place saturday morning, and helped me position the box in my garage – I couldn’t be happier (took 5 minutes, 4.5 of those was...

So in my first blog entry I touched on my dust collection progress. I’ve recieved a bit of interest with it so I thought I might share some of what I’ve learned to help others get a head start on thier system or to improve the system they already have. Dust collection is a very important issue in the shop. It is critical to health and general safety. Dust collection adds to the efficiency of the shop because the dust goes straight into the collection container and does not have to be swept up after being worked in and around. I’ve been meaning to blog this for awhile. I’ve gotten a few messages asking about my blade guard so I wanted to give the story.

This project is really coming together. That biscuit jointer really makes quick and easy work of cabinet assembly. I have never really gotten a chance to use it before.
I ordered an Incra Magni-Lock router plate through Woodcraft. It seems to be on the slow boat. But hopefully it will come at about the time I need it.

I ordered a 0.3 micron replacement filter from Wynn Environmental to replace my Jet DC1100 30 micron bag.
Originally I was going to make a simple review for people to benefit from my experience with the new filter I got… but since it had gotten a bit more complicated, I figured this is blog-worthy, and the ‘regular’ review will follow once I experience more the performance of the filter.

So for the longest time I’ve heard how much a Shop-vac doesnt quite cut it when it comes to larger machines, and how much quieter “real” DC machines are compared to a shop-vac, but being a weekend warrior, my budget is limited, and space was a big issue for me until recently (we just moved, and I have a full garage to work with now – will be blogged soon as well).

This one is also out of the order intended, but I’d like to keep these things together.
I still haven’t completed the workshop reorganization project. There seems to be so many distractions that sidetrack me.
I recently made a combination shield, & dust hood for my lathe. I looked at a lot of them that you can purchase, but I opted to design my own to fit my own lathe better. It slides under my lathe bed.

The hardest dust for me to breathe is the fine stuff that comes out of the orbital sander. I have used the Porter Cable Model 333 for about 10 years now, and have done a lot of sanding with it. I am sure there are better, more expensive sanders, but I like it, at least so far.

Well, this is the second and final part of my dust collector retro-fit.
Here you can see the two boxed as I recieved them:..
Here they are unpacked and stacked. I removed the Dust Dog label. I figured that it didn’t do anything but restrict air flow. It came off easily..
