So in my first blog entry I touched on my dust collection progress. I’ve recieved a bit of interest with it so I thought I might share some of what I’ve learned to help others get a head start on thier system or to improve the system they already have. Dust collection is a very important issue in the shop. It is critical to health and general safety. Dust collection adds to the efficiency of the shop because the dust goes straight into the collection container and does not have to be swept up after being worked in and around. It is achieved in as many various ways as woodworkers can think up. Here is how I have chosen to do it in one shop. These views are from my brother’s shop in Ohio where I am currently working.

I ordered a 0.3 micron replacement filter from Wynn Environmental to replace my Jet DC1100 30 micron bag.
Originally I was going to make a simple review for people to benefit from my experience with the new filter I got… but since it had gotten a bit more complicated, I figured this is blog-worthy, and the ‘regular’ review will follow once I experience more the performance of the filter.

So after much research and debates, I have finally charged the card, and 2 days later the delivery arrived with the new saw in the box (I opted to have it delivered from the store as opposed to pick it up myself – at 450lbs, I simply wouldn’t be able to unload it myself) Delivery from HD was swift and smooth, positive and friendly guy stop at my place saturday morning, and helped me position the box in my garage – I couldn’t be happier (took 5 minutes, 4.5 of those was...

And I want to install it on my Ridgid TA3650 saw. Now comes the good part!!! I had a plan to build a unit that incorporates the hood. Good evening, everyone!
I read, while standing in the magazine aisle at Safeway, an article in a recent Fine Woodworking issue about dust-proofing table saws. While I elected not to follow the author’s rather comprehensive dust-proofing method, I still thought that, on behalf of my lovely bride to be and the kids I’ll one day bounce upon my knee that I ought to improve the dust collection efficiency of my table saw.

This project is really coming together. That biscuit jointer really makes quick and easy work of cabinet assembly. I have never really gotten a chance to use it before.
I ordered an Incra Magni-Lock router plate through Woodcraft. It seems to be on the slow boat. But hopefully it will come at about the time I need it.

Drove out to Geneva today to pick up an air filtration unit for the new workshop. The painters have been complaining about sawdust in their art (oops).
The fellow I bought it from built it himself from scratch. Despite that, it is very well designed, probably better than most manufactured units. Twin filters (intake and outtake), fan and motor completely removable for service without pulling any wires or bolts, and it is pre-wired for low and high speeds with the flip of a switch.

A picture frame typically has a dust cover on the back. As it’s name implies, this cover is designed to keep dust out of the frame package. However, it is really more important than that. Properly covering the obverse of a frame keeps out dust, insects and airborne pollutants that could cause harm to the frame contents.
