Dust on Top of the SawStop

1104 days ago by wichle | 3 comments »

Oooops. I erased the pictures for my last Dust Blog not realizing they have to be there to support the blog. I noticed that there is a hole in the top of the blade guard. Sawdust flies out of that hole. Solution! A small 1” by 2” magnet to seal the hole. Simple but effective.

Miter Saw Assistance Requested

1136 days ago by wichle | 8 comments »

My shop is such that I do not have a wall behind the miter saw. There is a dust port on the saw that catches some of the saw dust. That is connectd to my dust collection system. However! This saw generates a good deal of random dust. I have tried placing a plastic scoop on a stand, (available from Woodcraft.) also connected to the dust collection system behind the saw. While it catches some additional dust, the saw still spews alot of random dust. I’d appreciate any ideas to cat...

Dust Control

1149 days ago by Justin | 9 comments »

Hello all, It’s been a while since I posted anything but that’s because I’ve been super busy. I just inherited a new shop and I am having a heck of a time with dust control. Basically the shop is 4 years old and has never been cleaned before I got it. Really want to smack the guy who was in there before me. I gave it a massive cleaning, fixed the dust collector, but I am still dealing with a healthy settling of dust on the floor every morning. I am getting an air f...

Shop vac dust deputy system w/ blast gates

1193 days ago by Canadian Woodworks | 2 comments »

Okay i’ve been asked to show how my shop vac dust deputy system works so here it is. I have the smaller ridgid shop vac from home depot under my ras inside the cabinet stuffed with insulation enough to dampen the noise but still let the motor cool and exhaust as it should. So fan no problems (-: The hose then goes to the dust deputy on the outside rear to the 5 gallon bucket it comes with, out of the top of the cyclone up towards the saws. I have it hooked into the home depot clea...

Evolution of a Shop #8: HFDC Upgrade

1200 days ago by Cory | 7 comments »

I have been wanting to get a trash can separator for my Harbor Freight dust collector since I bought it. I still don’t have the separator built, but I did make a great improvement to the unit, IMHO. I’m sure many of you have seen the stovepipe mod, or the Delta collector with room underneath the blower for a separator where the motor and the ring are in line. I wanted to try the same thing on the HFDC. The challenge is that the DC motor is really heavy and I wanted to keep th...

004: cheap, rolling lathe stand #5: dust hood mount solution

1200 days ago by Gary Fixler | 20 comments »

This one’s been in the works for awhile, and by that I mean I’ve pondered it in my head for a few minutes here and there over the last several months. I’ve had the general idea most of that time, but this week I pondered even harder than ever and imagined all of the pieces. I just wanted something simple that could hold one of the two dust hoods I’ve ended up with from Rockler, but I wanted to be able to tilt it forward over the piece, or backward out of the way, an...

techniques #3: PVC tube with hinged doors as lathe dust collector

1226 days ago by Gary Fixler | 7 comments »

I was watching a YouTube video of a guy in Downtown Disney turning a baseball bat, and noticed he had a pretty simple and cool dust collection setup that’s easy to make, simple to use, and low-profile. Check it out. I’d embed the video, but I’m not sure how to cue it up to exactly the right location as I can with a link.

Dust Collection #3: Fine!....... particles that is

1295 days ago by PurpLev | 32 comments »

After many months in the planning, designing, and reding on other peoples builds of air cleaners, the day before Thanksgiving I came upon an ad on craigslist of a JDS Air-Tech 2000 Model 750. I figured that if I was to build one – it would end up costing about as much as the JDS model, but will not have the same filtration quality, it’ll be heavier (wood construction as opposed to metal frame), and it’ll take me time to build it. time that could be used to build woodworking ...

Need plan for table saw dust collection.

1416 days ago by John Gray | 4 comments »

I purchased the hood shown in the link below. http://www.pennstateind.com/store/R-TDHOOD.html And I want to install it on my Ridgid TA3650 saw. Now comes the good part!!! I had a plan to build a unit that incorporates the hood. The unit is 3/4” plywood (2’x4 1/2’ approx.) that bolts between the saw and the stand, you screw the dust hood to the plywood. The plan shows a drawer and shelf using the plywood “overhang” to the left of the saw and a shelf on t...
