So in my first blog entry I touched on my dust collection progress. I’ve recieved a bit of interest with it so I thought I might share some of what I’ve learned to help others get a head start on thier system or to improve the system they already have. Not “green” in the environmental sense, mind you…but green in a very literal sense. I’ve spent literally months planning out most of the details of my new shop, since before they broke ground. One of the features I was most anxious to include that I was unable to have in my shared garage space was an honest-to-goodness central dust collection system. I am looking into a remote control for my dust collection system. I have a Delta 50-760 that is wired for 220v. I am looking at a PSI Woodworking LR220-3 220V Long Ranger. Anyone have experience any remotes?

(This post is based on a LumberJocks.com forum thread.) After completing my dust collection system installation, I turned to my air cleaner, the Delta 50-875. After locating some 4” “green” sewer and drain line; I started to connect the dust collector. By using a series of “y’s”, elbows, and blast gates I was able to make a main branch that will run to the jointer, planer and large sander; a branch to a floor sweep, and a branch to the existing 2” duct line. I still have the second 4” connector on the main DC free for expansion if needed. So far I have just “friction fitted” these connect...

Countertops
I’ve been dying to start stowing my tools away in the newly built shop cabinets—getting them both organized and out of the garage where they’re making it difficult to keep the car. The last remaining obstacle was finishing the countertops. I’m always scowering the want ads, classifieds, and flea markets for bargains. I have always wanted a central cyclone system for the shop but at at $1000 plus they have always been out of my price range so when I saw this in the local bulletin board at less than 300 I snatched it up. Now I’m finding that 6 inch duct work including Y’s and elbows costs 3x what 4 inch costs. Kinda like 8 inch jointers costing twice much as a 6 inch. So I’m asking LJ’s for any le...

to make my routing work environment more enjoyable i added a few different dust collection systems to my router table. as well as showing the fence that i made for it. first I’ll start off with the fence. it has a 2” opening that goes up high about 3 1/2” to allow for higher bits. so the fence is about 6 inches high for maximum support. and about 2 inches longer than the router table on both sides for maximum work piece support on both the infeed and outfeed sides. so here i...
