Ok, as some of you know or gathered from my electrical questions, I have been upgrading my shop once again. When we had our new deck built this summer, I had the electrician run a 40amp sub panel to my shop. You can read about it here. When all was said and done I ran a dedicated 20amp circuit to the DC and 2 independent 20 amp GFCI circuits (about 10 pair of duplex outlets) around the shop. I debated about how high to mount them. I know 48” is fairly standard, however, i do not hav...

... of about 3 years, I have finally found some time to start back on the workshop. Between a minor bout with cancer and my usual pursuit of wealth, I temporarily ran out of inspiration (not for woodworking, but for finishing out the shop room.)
I finally had to admit that dry walling was not my forte, so I hired out the job. One contractor disappeared half way through the job and it took a while find someone reliable. I also broke down and hired a licensed electrician to wire up my 110...

As some here know, I enjoy entering my woodworking projects in the local Fair Competitions. This year is no exception. Last year I entered a Wooden geared clock at the Orange County Fair in Southern California. This year I will be entering the same clock in the Puyallup Fair in Western Washington (My new home). I learned a lot at the OC Fair about displaying my clocks and how the way it is judged makes a huge difference in how it is awarded. The clock was delivered to the OC Fair in pieces, s...

It’s hard to believe how little progress I have made in the last month, but other areas of my life tend to take priority sometimes. The last time I posted, the overwhelming consensus was that I had unwittingly applied moldy drywall compound to my walls. Go me! It sure is a good thing this is a blog, where mistakes are okay, rather than a how-to tutorial! :-)
I was lucky in that a lot of the mud was still wet enough that I could pry it off in large sections with a small drywall kni...

I had one partial gallon-sized bucked of joint compound from some time last year (or was it the year before?), but it certainly wouldn’t be enough to complete the entire garage, so I went to the store to get one of those big honkin’ buckets. I prefer the pre-mixed stuff because, well, I’m an amateur, and pre-mixed means less work and less chance for screwups! I needed to get paper tape anyway, because apparently Wal-Mart only carries the fiberglass stuff.
After wanderin...

Progress has slowed a bit. A pulled or overworked back muscle is hindering me a little, but I have also been spending more time taking care of the lawn. I did manage to get a few pictures taken, though. For starters, here is the pile of lumber recovered from the old work bench:
Here are the cabinets. Note the…um…attractive strawberry decorations that hint at what these cabinets were originally used for. That was a fun little surprise. I guess that’s why a pr...

...alas, only on local cable, but a good start..
Our local cable television company has a local interest tv ‘magazine’ show. They shot a video clip of the Kerry-All Pouches Friday at a local building supply dealer. This dealer has been instrumental in helping me launch the various versions of the Pouch, including the original Plywood Pouch, the long and narrow Trim Pouch as well as an 8-foot Drywall Pouch, or cover and a 12-foot model. They’ve tried prototypes and given m...

I picked up several sheets of drywall, plus some cement board and even some pegboard in the past year or so… all for very little money ($20 total), and no immediate plans to use it… It has been cluttering up one corner of my shop. Today I decided that I would do something about that. I”ve got my newfangled workbench to complete, and that is going to need a spot in the shop before I can assemble it, Well, here’s what I did to get rid of the clutter:
I cut the 2x mate...
