I determined I needed a better spacer jig from what I started with in order to mount these drawer slides. So I went back to my big box store and bought two 3/4 by 24 by 48 inch small, easy to handle panels of MDF. I cross-cut both of their lengths to the 31 9/16 inches. This is the length I needed in order to mount my top-most 3 inch tall drawer. Then I ripped their widths. Maple & Cherry Nightstands #2: Nearly Finished

I have been spending my time in the shop to complete these nightstands instead of entering updates in my blog. Today I took the glued up drawer boxes and fitted them to their respective nightstand. I decided to cut dovetails for the sides where it fastens to the drawer front. I decided to go this way instead of cutting half-blind dovetails into the cherry drawer fronts. I got these drawers fitted before I closed up for the winter: This is the first time I’ve done inset drawers, and it was a bit easier than the hell I’d imagined it to be. The weather was already pretty cold and dry when I fit these though, so I assume they’ll swell in the spring. I haven’t glued them up just in case. I did learn something though.
