Fairy Doors #2: #9 Part II

465 days ago by MsDebbieP | 14 comments »

Good News / Bad News Bad Newswell, I’ve tried the fasteners as hinges on the Fairy Door #9 and it’s not going to work. The door keeps falling off when opened. So.. I’ll either have to do some magic metal work to the hinge to keep them secure or… I’ll have to pry them off and find another alternative. But the GOOD NEWS is …. I have pictures. Side 1I used my router plane to create a dado in the pillar (joining the brown section to the yellow wall)Als...

Fairy Doors #1: #9 in Progress

465 days ago by MsDebbieP | 6 comments »

Aug 19, 2008 Warning: NO PICTURES attached. (So if you “NEED” pictures you will just have to wait until I’m finished the project!) Fairy Door #9 is for my #1 grand-daughter who will be turning 6 next month! This door, of course will have to be special and that means that it will be more than just a door. Yes, the door is going to open. Well, that’s the plan anyway. I had a heck of a time trying to figure out the hinges with the door only being 1/4” thick...

Greene inspired Night Stand #16: Door glueup and Brusso knife hinges

519 days ago by ChicoWoodnut | 13 comments »

I glued up the doors and set in knife hinges this week. Here are a few photos of the process. First I glued up the doors. I sometimes have problems getting my panels and doors to glue up square so I came up with this simple jig to help with the process. It is nothing more than a couple of jointed sticks clamped square to the bench to keep the assembly square. Once I have the jig all square and secure I put two strips underneath to keep the sqeeze out from making a mess of the...

Making Your Own Hardware, a Hammered Copper Finger Pull for the Tilt Front Laptop Computer Desk

777 days ago by Mark A. DeCou | 23 comments »

Over the past few years, I have had the chance to build my own door handles out of copper for several commissioned art-furniture pieces. This is something I enjoy doing, and it gives my work another niche to offer. I would not say that I am a coppersmith, as there is a lot that I don’t know about the process. I am almost completely self-taught, so there is bound to be a lot I haven’t learned yet. I bought two old reprinted books on the subject of coppersmithing, and I think ...

Summer Joinery Entry Shaker Cabinet #4: Almost Done - Well really its done now,

853 days ago by Karson | 6 comments »

Almost Done> As I was reading the previous posted blogs on the construction of the Summer 2007 LumberJocks Joinery, I noticed that I failed to complete the posting of the latch for the cabinet door. Not only had I failed to post it, I had failed to install it. I wanted to use something like a clothes pin. The little loop that catches the wire for hanging clothes. I had created my wire simulation out of wood. This was installed in the end of a shelf board. The space behind the Holl...

What I did on my summer vacation.....instead of building my Chair!

886 days ago by Bob Babcock | 10 comments »

It’s not as interesting as working on the chair but I still got to work with tools and wood. We replaced the old slider we had this weekend. My son-in-law came over and helped (read I was his gopher primarily). His Dad owned a glass shop for many years and he has been installing windows, doors, sun rooms, siding, and more since he was 14. He now works for a very high end residential design/build firm on the Cape. He is anal about his finish work….a good thing. All thats left...

Thorsen Table contest #3: getting started

950 days ago by scottb | 17 comments »

One of my first ideas for this challenge was to make a “green” table – as in recycled, not painted. After weeks of pondering, and ultimately ignoring the problem of where to begin, and more importantly, what to use, I remembered that I had this door sitting in my shed. It may have been original to the house, but has been collecting dust for the past 5 or so years since we bought the house and replaced the exterior doors – this one had dog door cut out of it and was ...
