Building and Painting a Step Stool

148 days ago by ~Julie~ | 3 comments »

I had a customer ask if I could make a pine step stool. Here’s what I came up with. We will need five pieces: two sides, a brace, a step, and a top This is the (right) side piece, with the two holes drilled on the inner face, for the brace. The holes do not go through to the outside, this way no screws are used and therefore no screws show in the finished stool: This is the back brace, which sits between the sides. I glued two dowels on each end which will f...

For those who are interested, here’s a video covering the process of my first attempt at a weathered/antique paint look. I believe some people call this a “shabby chic” look? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f37Do03w20A

Went to Home Depot for some 2×6’s and 2×4’s. Then i glued then squared up ...

Works in Progress #2: beatin' up my oak

1491 days ago by tyskkvinna | 8 comments »

I’ve gone through and painted all of the pieces.. and have sanded about half of them. I’m amazingly unhappy with the cherry, overall. It’s just …... not what I wanted, I guess. It’s very flaky? Moreso than the other cherry I’ve worked with. Guess I can’t complain – I got it for free out of a burn-pile from a cabinet maker, so obviously it wasn’t a “great” piece of wood to start. Here is that piece of oak again. Re...
