Fall SketchUp Challenge - Empire State Dining Table

793 days ago by Brad_Nailor | 22 comments »

I have always been a big fan of the art deco style and early 20th century skyscrapers so I decided to combine both for inspiration for my virtual table design. After plowing through tons of images I found a really great art deco mirror from the 1930’s that really inspired me for the tabletop..For the leg inspiration I used my favorite skyscraper ever designed The Empire State Building!...So this is it..my Art Deco Empire State Dining Table! The material is tiger maple and wenge. The top...

Fall Sketchup Challenge Entry - Backwards Bridge

808 days ago by ThreeJs | 14 comments »

This bridge fell during a tropical storm a few years ago. Now it servers as a dam, and the river flows over it rather than under. Today cars do not use the bridge to travel the forest road, but that doesn’t stop a few adventurous hikers. The bridge. Wire frame showing the construction of the table The woods depicted in the table design are primarily cherry and maple, with walnut accents.Front View Left View The table. Folsom Stadium Dining Room Table

801 days ago by steved | 10 comments »

I love College Football in general, and specifically the CU Buffaloes. So, I used Folsom Field as inspiration. I also used Layout, which comes with SketchUp Pro, and used the style feature to add a more hand drawn look in certain views.

Virtual Dining Table Challenge - Hundertwasser Table

791 days ago by daltxguy | 12 comments »

Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1928-2000) was an Austrian Painter and sculptor. Born in Austria he lived and worked primarily in Vienna but eventually made New Zealand his permanent home. He was one of Austria’s best known contemporary artists though he remains controversial. I first got to know Hundertwasser from my own time spent living in Vienna and like Hundertwasser I too now make my home in New Zealand, so it seemed appropriate to use his work as my inspiration. The common themes in hi...

Fall Sketchup Challenge

There has always been a monument that intrigued me. It’s in the US somewhere. I was born, raised, and live in Canada. You think I could find this monument? I don’t where it is, or what it’s called, but I knew what it looked like. Well, I did eventually find it. It’s called the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial. I once knew it as the St. Louis Arch. In looking at the wonderful work done by fellow lumberjocks, I’ve become fascinated with bent lam...

Fallingwater Dining Table

790 days ago by kevin | 12 comments »

When it was time to design my table, there was only one choice for the inspiration. As a graduate of architectural design, I’ve always been fascinated with Frank Lloyd Wright. I spent a lot of time with my nose buried in books about “Fallingwater”, his masterpiece. Then I went there…. It was amazing! The entire house seems to have grown from the rock all on it’s own. I returned from the trip and wrote my final paper on Fallingwater. Since then I...

Fall ScetchUp Challenge

808 days ago by Buckskin | 10 comments »

Okay, I wrestled with this and wrestled with this. I must be resistant to change. I am not sure I know how to use SketchUp any better than I did. I think I have learned a few new words though. LOL. In all seriousness this was fun. Anyway here is the inspiration for my entry: And now for my table. It is simple in design and long on pride. The table is 4’ x 6’ with 36” legs.

Fall Sketchup Challenge

813 days ago by Bob Babcock | 23 comments »

Just like the tutorial I had to do something quick. I’ve recently become very interested in Standup Paddleboarding. Most of you have also seen the gates I built for my brother at his home on Maui. My brothers home is a short distance from arguably the most famous surf break in the world….Jaws. All that coupled with my recent paddle building experience led me to create the Jaws Dining Table. The creation of the model was very simple. I first created the outline of the wave. T...

Challenge 03 Entry - Bridge Dining Table

802 days ago by RickInTexas | 12 comments »

So after missing out on the last challenge, I made myself get this one done before time ran out. Let me first start by showing my influence. This shows the column and cap design that I like that we are using for bridges around the Houston area. I work for Texas Dept. of Transportation, so I thought that doing a table inspired by not one single location, but by all the bridges that I have been around for the past couple years. This second one shows the beams between two bent caps. So here it ...
