Ok, so I am sitting here weighing the costs of some tools. On the one hand, the Festool Domino set with dominos, guides, and a dust collector for approximately $1300. On the other hand, I need a table saw and a planer. The money for the domino would likely cover these items. Which way do I go?
The Domino would allow me to do mortise and tennon joints much more easily than now. It would have the greater flexibility of positions, large sizes, etc. compared to the mortise machine. But ...

I have been resisting buying a Radial Arm Saw (RAS) for at least the last year. I have a great Sliding Compound Miter Saw, Router, and Table Saw. The only operation that seemed to be quick with a RAS that I could not easily do with the tools I have is making cross cuts using a dado set.

alright so now everything except for the fence is put together and it is looking awesome.
i added the apron and plugged all my holes with birch plugs just for the looks and i put on a coat of poly just to make the birch plugs turn brown because they are end grain so it looks cool, no other reason. i am planning on making the fence and also some form of dust collection and some storage for router bits and a couple other things. maybe even put some French cleats there. so here is a video...

I have completed preliminary stages of machining a custom helical cutterhead for my DeWalt 733 Planer.The design is what I came up with from looking at other companies’ designs. This is what I created in my CAD software.
Here is a video of the machining process to this point… DON’T WORRY, THERE’S MORE TO COME!

Fellow LJ’s:I’ve been shopping the net for a biscuit joiner…and need your input. Here’s what I’ve learned so far:
- Porter-Cable has the best handle and power switch arrangement, not to mention top quality – and the price to go with it. It’s probably the top of the list (except Festool’s REALLY high-end thang!)
- DeWalt is almost the same tool except the t-handle isn’t on the fence, it’s on the motor. But the fence, motor, switch and price are about the same as PC.

I’ve had this cordless dewalt set for several years, and in the last year It has been stored most of the time. I have 3 18v batteries that would rotate between the tools, so I would always have a fresh battery to swap with… until recently – all 3 batteries died, don’t hold a charge – and in the last week won’t even charge at all … AAARRRGGGGHHH….

Where can you buy 1000 (full size) sheets of (nice, waterproof) sandpaper for $1.00? Those were the first things to go; I managed to grab 2 boxes in the frenzy, one box of 150 grit, one of 280… Need a sheet? let me know!
At 8:00 Saturday morning, Grizzly Industrial’s annual tent sale in Muncy PA opened their doors. I thought I would check this thing out, and actually got there 15 minutes early thinking I would take a look around before the crowds showed up at 10:00 or so…...

I picked up this DeWalt Radial Arm Saw (RAS) for about $50 from a nice older man in southern Massachusettes. It was his father’s and had been in his family since it was purchased new in 1960.
Here is a picture of it “in the wild” ( as I found it).
I took it home and began cleaning it up, lubricating moving parts, and then gave it a nice coat of hammered enamel paint. I constructed a “Mr. Sawdust” style table for it and calibrated all of the alignmen...
