My head is still spinning. Just getting to the show has been a trial. This was my third try to get past the jury process. I’ve heard about how hard it is just to get accepted into the show. So in my innocence I figured I’d go all out and bring everything. That meant getting a booth. Hauling everything up there. Setting it all up. A good bit of time and money involved. Part of getting ready was getting all new tires on my “good” truck, a 96 GMC with just about 100,000 m...

Success-
I installed the big door today with a helping hand. The careful planning paid big dividends in an incredibly smooth and accurate install.
Before doing the veneer work, I installed and fitted the doors. The doors were then taken to the shop and finished. The hinges were numbered and went back into the same locations. This meant that the final install required no additional adjustment. This is what I call jobsite theory, and it worked out this time.
Getting a handle on it&...

What I should be doing…
is getting my shop in order because I got a truckload of wood and sheet goods from guy that was moving his shop. I have a built-in banquette to get going on in the shop now that the holidays and family mayhem are behind us (in a good grandkids way.)
I found gold!
Actually what I found was a Herman Miller prduction video while digging through the Furnitude blog by LJ member Mitch. I just LOVE Herman Miller.
What is very important about this video is th...

I have been thinking about making another table lately. I had so much fun building the Sewing Table that I wanted to make something for our house. And my wife has wanted a place to put her collection of jewelry. So we came up with this idea (actually it was mostly her idea) and I started doing some designing today. This is what I came up with so far.
The idea is to make a hall table with a lifting “lid” and a hidden jewelry case underneath with lots of room for necklaces, brace...

From time to time I get some comments or a PM about the bench. I’m grateful for those who have remarked so positively about my blog. Thanks! Now, I’ve finally gotten around to posting the actual SU file to the 3D Warehouse.
Here is the link to the file.

Hey everybody! I was just reading and responding to someones forum topic about shop design, and I remembered that a while ago I downloaded a Sketchup component library that contained models of most of the power equipment you would find in a wood shop. I got it from the downloads/components page of the old Sketchup (pre Google). I don’t remember who did the modeling but they graciously put it up there for anyone to download and use. Here is a couple of screen shots of the stuff thats in...

Well, for kicks and giggles I decided to try to create a bookcase entry in Sketchup for the competition. I have no delusions of winning anything, but I thought I’d give it a try. I though of what I could do to make a traditional bookcase stand-out, and not coming-up with anything I decided to mess-around with curved surfaces in Sketchup. After some tinkering, I had a basic design that you see here:
It’s more of an art piece than a bookcase I suppose, but it was t...

For some two years, I carried a rough outline of a case for my wife’s piano books in the back of my mind. Having been scared away by AutoCad’s threat to my credit card balance, and then frustrated with TurboCad’s coming-through-the-back-door work method, I decided to bite the bullet and try Sketchup. Otherwise, I’m back to my old CrayolaCAD.
Well, Sketchup was a little tricky at first, but I managed to fudge a little here and bump a little there, and finally with one cathartic brain fart, ...

Ok, so the next piece of shop furniture that needs updating is my radial arm saw table. The original table I built was meant to be a temporary home for the old saw after its restoration about two years ago.
I spent some down time at work drawing a few different designs and ideas and then put it in sketchup when I got home. Please… let’s discuss the design before I actually make any cuts! I am totally open to any constructive criticism.
Here is what I have come up with so far:
Th...

My blogging is more like a diary. It is about my personal woodworking journey. The Western Design Conference is just a week away and my brain is kicking into high gear. I’ve been offline for a week and a half so I’ve just been trying to catch up here at Lumberjocks. Reading some good stuff about marketing, websites, shows, etc. The range of professional experience is very educational. I have to admit I expected some direct response from a web site, but haven’t got a bite. ...
