I got an idea last week to make our home page more inviting to new visitors. The idea was to introduce our community – us – through showing what we love. All those “latest” boxes (projects, blogs, forums) were nice but was telling nothing special about us. Now we have 4 main sections on the home page:
we love to work the wood – featured LumberJock spotlight. This section shows 5 project of randomly selected LumberJock on each page reload. To have the opportu...

Exciting Progress..
I am making some great progress on my closet project. I currently have the copper rods in a machine shop where the parts are being fabricated.
The clients and I had talked about changing the lights to better illuminate the fine work that I have produced. While the metal work is being done I decided to go ahead and install the new lights.
WOW!
Man-OH-Man! Does it ever look fantastic!
Here is the closet with the old lights:

Few days ago, I decided to update the LumberJocks look. The header was becoming too busy with all the navigation links and that was the main motivator. And I wanted bolder and visually more appealing page titles as well.
After playing in the graphic design program and adjusting the code I ended up with the following new look and updates:
Tabbed navigation with the highlighted current section
All of the “my home, my…” links moved to just one drop-down menu that ...

Finished!
Well it’s been a long journey and it did not end without one extra push.
I finished installing the copper handles Monday by 11:30. There was a couple of scratches but I was certain I could buff them out. This is a skill that goes with the territory. I worked on the finish for the next six hours and I could not get the finish to blend.
How to Remove a Scratch-
After exhausting all other options this is what I resorted to today:
Yes you are seeing it correctly...

Another Milestone
I am pretty excited to share with you guys today’s progress. I got all of the handle pieces finished!
Next I have some touch up on the doors and the final install. I am sure I will have a full day of technical sweating.
I had to brush the pieces again on the wire wheel to brighten the finish. I then hung them from the ceiling and wiped them down thoroughly with acetone. This strips any oil from the surface.
I sprayed them with an acrylic resin lacquer by Sh...

Getting Closer…
Well guys I can hardly stand it! I am getting so close to done on this project and yet there is so much to do. I just want to go home and be with my wife and my dogs so bad.
This job has been a nail biter every step of the way. The more I get done, the more work I have at risk if I should screw up. A mistake could cost the equivalent of a good used car – NO KIDDING.
If you want to do high-end work, the risk is high too. That is one factor most don’t...

1 • 1 • 2 • 3 • 5 • 8 • 13 • 21 • 34 – The Fibonacci Sequence
I have been fascinated with The Fibonacci Sequence and The Golden Rectangle for some time. I finally got around to building a Fibonacci Gauge that was featured in WOOD Magazine.
The guage maintains a consatnt proportion of 1:1.618 between the points. It is used to help determine visually appealing proportional dimensions. I am looking forward to using the guage in future projects.
Follow the text below for so...

Well, here is my entry for the bookcase challenge.
It’s meant to be constructed using standard frame and panel construction using solid wood, exceptfor the back which would be plywood.
I have never seen a bookcase on wheels before, so that dictated the smaller size. Too heavy and itwouldn’t roll very easily on carpet. The advantages to a bookcase on wheels is the ability to move itfrom room to room or around the room without having to empty it.
The reason for it opening ...

Last month I painted a little alcove in my living room and made it into a little sitting area. I painted the walls a risky shade of green and absolutely loved it. The walls change colours all day long, depending on the light. It can be lime green in the afternoon, and then granny smith apple green, and then darken down to a sage green at night. I love it.. It was my little “happy place” to go and relax and rejuvenate. (sorry, no “before” pictures)
Then, we decided t...
