After several e-mails requesting the plans for the Dan Walters cutting board I copied I decided to put some information together to get people started.
The first thing to decide is what size of board you want as this will dictate the stock you need. Or the stock you have will dictate what size cutting board you can make.

This is a plan that I found early on in the year and is really what has finally pushed me into doing something with the dusty old tools that I have setting around. I found it by chance on a website and promptly printed a copy of the plans. I’m not too up on copyrights and such, but if you google it as 19830EZ you should be able to find it as a PDF file.

With the aid of my motorized router lift, I can create medium to large circles on the router table easily.
Forget that router trammel or bandsaw circle jig, with this method, you can make circles on your router table with no dust and no fuss.
This method is safer, cleaner and more accurate than many other methods. If you have a router table with a miter slot, check out this setup!

In a recent Blog by Obi, he discussed using a router to cut mortises, and this started up a discussion, in which Don cautioned against getting a Hollow Chisel Mortiser. I think there are good thoughts on both sides of this debate, and I don’t mean to do anything other than offer some more experience about purchasing and using a Mortiser, and other methods of cutting mortises.
