Several years ago I saw this ribbon design at segmenting.biz/inlayexample. I started by selecting the body of the design. In this case, padauk, yellow heart, aand hickory for three boards. Then I laminated the “ribbons” Then I cut 2” holes in the boards that make up the body of the design. The problem for a flat boarder(cutting board) was how to create the plugs without a center hole. The first idea was wood turning but this would require a massive square of exotic wood...
At this point in my creation of a luxurious gun rack, I have accomplished great work. I completed my planning and have cut down and planed the side pieces of my gun rack to the correct measurements. I then used carbon paper to trace my outline onto my cut wood. This is where I am currently at. I have had no problems so far, and hope to be cutting and shaping these two side pieces by next week.
I’m just making this marquetry to guild casket. It’s motive from Jean-Baptiste-Charles Claudot’s painting. I’m using burning to crate shadows. Finished
What do you do with a big chunk of log? What can’t you do? If the video doesn’t appear, CLICK HERE
I’m going to do a half lap with a cross cut, chisel paring, and followed through with a shoulder plane. Now if you didn’t know better, you might be thinking I’m an Olympic diver getting ready to execute a stunning high dive. But alas, I am not. I’m a woodworker, and this is a structural joint and the tools I will use to make a simple, yet strong woodworking joint. The Half Lap is a joint used to connect two intersecting pieces of wood. Each piece of wood is sawn to half its thickness. Whe...

I had a Ryobi 14 Amp 10 in. Compound Mitre Saw. It was working fine but could only cut a max of 5 inches wide boards. I was in the market for a new on but all of the sliding miter saw was so costly. I even considered a Harbor Freight one, but even at that it was a $100 and more for one. I decided to check out craigslist.com and found a Kobalt one there for s feel. Well, after I got home I found out why it was so cheap – it was not square. I tried a couple of time to square it up but it...
It’s snowing here so Its out of the unheated shop and staying indoors – good time to make the blade clips. I chose to use stainless steel because I waned a material that won’t rust, be strong and capable of sustaining the blade tension, and I like the color (not a big fan of brass although I do like it as an accent in some cases). I ordered some 1/2” stainless steel rods from Speedymetals a while back for no real reason when I ordered some other material as it was o...
If you carve, cut, sand, or even trim your finger nails (does that include everyone?) then you have got to check out this little rotary tool. This weeks review is on the Dremel 3000.
