Well, after a little bit of tweeking, It looks to be working… (keeping my fingers crossed). This was just to be a proof of concept (prototype), but it seems to be working well enough that I’ll use it for the rest of the production and make a better one next time. Thanks to all for your suggestions.
!(Working router trammel)!
Sincerely,
Tom

Finally got to the point where I could try the waterslide transfer decals out.
David’s instructions were much clearer than what came with the product.
Having already used a different first coat, than in his demo (oops), and not being sure of compatability issues (not to mention wanting to wait for a few coats of spray finish to dry) I tried using them unprotected (as per the manufacturers instructions).
They worked great – slid off perfectly. I didn’t find them too ...

It’s been a long week, but I am excited to say that I just finished up the 2nd Steak Knife set tonight about 10:15pm CT. Sure, I could go to bed, but not after I blog the milestone. But, first, let me apologize for not providing much in the area of notable, or supportive input the past couple of months. I just haven’t had time to do any reading on LJ, only worrying about getting my own projects and blogs posted. I swore off of LJ until the steak knife commissions were complete,...

In an attempt to cut a large radius nosing for some mantels I’m making, I’m in process of making a router trammel to support the bit in a constant arc. Made from 3/4 ply, my inspiration is based off an old Fine Woodworking article and tablesaw trunions. I still need to mount it to a stable base, fit a router and bit and the fire it up…
I’ll post more when I make some sawdust.

For the most part the design process is left to me on the furniture I build. The customer just gives me a general idea and I go with it. There is the occasion that the customer would like or needs to have their hand in the designing process.
Case in point, I have a Murphy wall bed customer that ordered my Euro Murphy bed. They wanted to change it up a little by adding a few extra rectangle blocks. She had an idea of what she wanted and thought it look good on paper. After temporar...

For the past 14 months, I have waited patiently to see if my investment in a prestigious national woodworking show would pay off. Sure it was a lot of fun to be counted acceptable by the jury, and to attend the show, but it is hugely expensive for a small one-man operation like I run here. Not only just the cost of the booth fees, but getting things ready to take is a huge undertaking, renting a truck, fuel, hotel, food, etc. I was disappointed with the “return” on my investmen...

If you are just surfing through the internet about Walking Canes, and you want to see some actual canes I’ve carved, click on the Widget Picture of the cane here. That project has more than 40 other links to other unique carved walking canes I’ve built.
This blog entry is for showing a new concept sketch of a carved walking cane design that I am working on so that the prospective customer can view the concept drawings and provide his input, or approval.
thanks for readi...

”Wood meets Felt” aka “Woodworker Meets Hatmakers”
I’ve been trying to fit into my spare time the tedious work of making of several different hatmaking tool prototypes. Each of them has come along as a result of a custom hatmaker asking for one, and so I have met some cool folks that are passionately working at something they love doing.
Hopefully, all of us will get tired of ball caps at some point and look for a style that is better looking, and actually...

Well, I had romantic notions of making my #100 Blog Entry a big to-do with a long and folksy Kansas Flint Hills Tour Guide with lots of cross linked information about the area where I live and work. It is a great area, and the rest of the world is starting to take notice. Previously, I enjoyed the feed back from when I wrote about a Tallgrass Prairie Fire Party, and a Kansas Flint Hills Hot Air Balloon Ride.
But, I just haven’t had time to spend on the keyboard with non-business re...
