The crest rails are made up of three pieces. One piece is about half of the rail. Another piece of about a quarter of the rail is milled and glued to the half piece. A filler piece is then glued into the open quarter section with craft paper between the pieces. this so it will come out after the piece is turned on the lathe to size. Below is the turned pieces ready for the next step.
Now the the sections that were glued in with the craft paper are removed for the next step.

I know that I have been away for a time and fortunately it was for a good reason and that is business is good in this down time. I consider myself fortunate that I am in this position and in need of your guys experience. I am making a crib for a client and they want a “safe” finish on the crib for obvious reasons. I’ve been debating for a while now,,,,,what kind of feet should this crib have? I’m running our of time so something simple, yet goes with the rest of the design. Needs to be fast to make, since time is running out. Ah Ha! I have it!

Well, we are basically finished. There are a couple spots that we still need to put some more Poly on, but the crib is basically finished. Enjoy.
Well, that pretty much doesn’t for the crib. I had a lot of fun (and frustration) on this project and am looking forward to the next. There was a lot of lessons learned in this one that is for sure. This was, after all, my first piece of furniture since I was 11 years old. And much more challenging than that one ...

Addison rose was born Thurday the 6th of November at 2:19 am. Both are doing just fine. Addison weighed in at a whopping 7lbs. 15 oz. and stands 21” tall.
I’m working hard to get this crib finished up and into finish. I think you guys are right, my timing is off a little or is it? We went through and picked out some lumber last weekend. My dad came out and helped me get all of the pieces planed down and cut to rough size.
The Sycamore slats are cut to size, the rest is just close. Waiting for final dimensioning to give the wood some time to move if it is going to.
Here we are preparing it.
Yeah, I know, forgot my safety glasses. I’ve been trying to do better at this now that I have some prescription safety glasses.

Sorry, no pictures on this one. I know that is a “no no” in blogs, but I just need a quick answer and I’ll get some more pics on this week yet.
I have most of the crib finished and hope to complete it this weekend. I have put off what i consider the most challenging part until then end. Not that i am afraid of a challenge, just would hate to mess up this piece.

It’s been difficult finding time to complete this project.
When you come home after work to two toddlers, a baby and an exhausted wife, it’s extremely difficult to then suggest you’d like to head out to the shop for a couple hours! “Disappearing” into the shop on weekends can be equally problematic. Nevertheless, we worked out a plan and I finally managed to make the time to get this crib done…and none to soon with Nathan now just over 3 mos. old!

My wife and I are expecting our first child to be born in the first part of September. I am going to attempt to build some baby furniture for him. I have never built any baby furniture and would love to get some ideas, suggestions, input from those that have.
I think we have decided on building a crib. We haven’t decided on whether to build a convertible crib or just a regular crib.

Now that he’s arrived, I need to get crackin’ on a crib for our latest addition.
As with the cribs I built for Annalise and Sean, I wanted to use an “off the shelf” plan to ensure it complies with the latest safety standards as well as to make it easier to fit it with standard hardware, mattress, etc. In the end, we settled on the “Heirloom Crib” design I had used for my daughter. This one will be built with cherry and walnut and sport some minor changes...
