My Craftsman 13” planer is a real beast to move around in the shop. It’s very heavy, and really bulky. As such, it’s just always either in the way when I don’t need it, or really hard to get to when I do, having collected many items from other projects on and around it since its previous use. So, today I did my first woodworking in the shop since I cut my finger off. I installed the splitter on my table saw. It only took five minutes. As my fellow woodworkers know, it’s a huge pain. It’s in the way when you try to measure the width of every cut (so I’m resorting to using the tape on the saw), and it can only be used for cuts greater than 1-1/2” wide (otherwise the push stick won’t fit through. I’ve yet to see how it works with the dado blad...

So, I’ve got my girlfriend’s permission to start working on our new dining room set. I’ve done a ton of research, and for me, Schroeder hit the nail right on the head. He’s been extremely helpful with suggestions, suggested reading, and tool purchases to make the process go smoother. I will build his table. Forgive My Insensitivity…
A public Thank You is in order before I go any further. I had some great support from two individuals that are a part of LumberJocks.
I relied heavily on Dave Pruett for “on call” support to figure out how to edit / process / and post my video.
I need to thank Marc Spagnuolo as well. I did not continually call him like Dave, but his advice and pointers were taken to heart and helped me out as well.

A few years ago I saw one of these planers listed as for sale and knew that I wanted one. From the first time I saw one, I knew I was going to get one. For the next several months I looked for the one for me at the price I wanted to pay. I saw several, but you would have thought these things are gold plated. This past week I had one fall into my lap for $40.00.
It was a bit “aged” and needed some work, but it cleaned up nicely.

A very good friend of mine has a father that is an avid woodworker. He chip carves, and makes many other things such as wooden spoons and the like on his drawhorse. He’s a very talented man. Anyway, he decided that he wanted a new stationary belt sander, and bought one. The older stationary sander was a Craftsman, and it had a few years under its belt. Was able to swing by Rockler this week to pick up some hinges, a cupboard key latch and a shelf pin hole jig. & Finally had a chance to put in some decent time on the bookcase today.
1. Sanding2. Installed lapped slats in the back3. Drilled the adjustable shelf pin holes4. Mounted the door with the hinges5. Installed the cupboard key latch.

Two church members, church elders and great friends know that woodworking is emotionally, spiritually and psychologically therapeutic for their pastor. So they have commissioned me to build five pieces of craftsman/arts & crafts furniture for them over the past six to eight years (Chair, couch, bed frame and two chest of drawers). All the pieces are pictured in my projects or blogs. They’re moving away to Iowa in August :(

I was driving down the road today when I spotted a “FREE” sign on a dresser sitting on a driveway. I am not above picking up free furniture quality wood when I get a chance, so I stopped to take a look. The dresser was not of good quality. As I turned to return to my vehicle a man walked out and asked if I needed any other furniture. He was the landlord and a renter had abandoned a lot of stuff in the house.
