Making Your Own Hardware, a Hammered Copper Finger Pull for the Tilt Front Laptop Computer Desk

775 days ago by Mark A. DeCou | 23 comments »

Over the past few years, I have had the chance to build my own door handles out of copper for several commissioned art-furniture pieces. This is something I enjoy doing, and it gives my work another niche to offer. I would not say that I am a coppersmith, as there is a lot that I don’t know about the process. I am almost completely self-taught, so there is bound to be a lot I haven’t learned yet. I bought two old reprinted books on the subject of coppersmithing, and I think ...

Back to better video

33 days ago by Chris Davis | 1 comment »

I’ve been having problems with my video feed lately. I keep breaking by good cameras (shop not a good environment). Then I crashed my computer. After waiting almost 2 weeks for a recovery disk. I think I have things going again. I also replace one of the camera. For building pictures and recorded video see my Current Projects link at wwbeds.com or poggyskids.com. See what we are doing live: <div></div>

Crash and Burn...

337 days ago by SteveKorz | 6 comments »

Well, it finally happened. My computer crashed equivelant to falling out of the sky at 10,000 feet. The registry has crashed and burned somehow, and it’s turned off all my hardware devices, modem, etc. So, this is seriously cutting into my lumberjocks time. I was able to log in today breifly to post this. However, it looks like I’ll have to continue to take a brief vacation for a bit till the computer is operational, or until I finally break down and buy a new one (which is ...

Shop Computer

372 days ago by Chris Davis | 9 comments »

I wanted to share with my fellow LJ’s about my new shop computer. My computer has been located in the showroom about 50 yards away from my shop which isn’t much but go back and forth a few times and a lot of time is wasted. I also broadcast my shop live on the internet for my customers. With the computer up front, I never knew when the feed was down. So I moved it. I have a window that seperates my back showroom from my shop. I call it the monkey viewing area. I feel like...

Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard update

758 days ago by Jojo | 11 comments »

Just a quickie because I’m very busy but I have to report on this. Leopard is on my machine since sunday evening and I have to say that I am really impressed. I was very aware of the new features (300+ over Tiger and 500+ over Panther) but one thing is to know them and another to be able to use them in your everyday workflow. It is absolutely gorgeous. Amazing little things that make your experience so much easier that you have to try them to believe it. Most important though is t...

Shop Multimedia #2: Shop Computer Workstation

791 days ago by mot | 14 comments »

Well, this isn’t fine woodworking by any stretch of the matter. After figuring out the technology I was going to use for the shop computer, I failed to spend alot of time thinking where I was going to put it. I’ve been unhappy with a little inset shelving unit that is above my bench. It’s too small to really hold anything, serving a purpose for another use of my shop space about 10 years ago. In the picture, there is alot of crap stuffed into it, but most of it doesnR...

Shop Multimedia #1: Shop Computer - Remote KVM via CAT5

833 days ago by mot | 17 comments »

Hi Folks, Many of you know that I’ve been trying to work out the shop computer situation. I had a number of suggestions given to me and most of them excellent, and all quite good. In true “Me,” fashion, I chose none of them and came up with another option. As most of you know, one of the greatest concerns about a computer in the shop, is dust. This is a big concern, because even a cheap computer can ingest a lot of dust but there also came the concern about the spac...
