I prepared some rope samples a few weeks ago for a client meeting. Here’s the process I used: Layout Part I. Video for Part I of the layout process. I mark the centers of the square portions at either end of the turning. I line my ruler up with the two points and bend it down slightly so it touches the column. Then I mark a short center line on the column itself. I do that on all four sides. Then I take some painters tape and line up the centers the same way I did with the ruler, ...

Here is a list of data that I have compiled for making columns out of 2×4s or 1×4s. It took me several days to get all the info worked out. Now if I want to build a column I can use my charts and find out exactly what I need. My charts will tell me the length of the sides, the number of the sides, how much is routed out to from the circle, and the angle to cut the wood at. Here is my link to my page. Well, I got a call from a developer we do finish trim design and installs for and he asked me to contact the new owner of one of the homes they built that we did all the finish trim inside.
