Well, winter finally arrived a couple of days ago…..6 inches of snow and -2 degrees F. Not so bad, but I was getting used to the idea of skipping winter this year. On a more pleasant note; I just celebrated my 1st year with LJ. I have enjoyed being a part of this great group of men and women, craftsmen and artists, with a common, yet diversified interest in things wooden. I have “met” so many great people in the past year and have even managed to meet a couple in person.Th...

Had some shop time today with 42 degrees outside, it was quite a lovely day. my compressor came back to life also – I guess when it goes below 40 the air is too thin for the compressor to be able to raise the pressure in the tank.
I also got the radiant heater from Lee Valley. Last time around, by the time I decided to order it- they were out of stock, and just received new stock this week. it works well, not as well as I was hoping for, but decent. To turn it on/off you have to yank...

Well it has been way to long since I last wrote or posted anything on my blog and I apologize for that. The main reason for the long period between blog posts is that as some of you know, I was out of work for over a year. I had to make the tough decision to severely limit my woodworking since I could not afford the power bill. In case you did not know, woodworking is not my occupation. Writing crap that no one reads is. Yes, the next time you actually take the time to read the directions tha...

Yesterday turned out to be a good fall day. I had the south facing doors open for a while in the afternoon. With the sunlight and lack of wind the shop stayed comfortably warm even though the outside temps were cool.
But this is what we look like today. The forecast is for a high of 25°F and tonight it is predicted to hit 9°F. The wind is blowing pretty good too.
I am definitely not ready for this.
Dang.
Take me somewhere that I can leave the shop doors open and the dogs ...

Will Spring EVER get here? I feel like a kid in school waiting for summer break. I want some shop time so badly, that I’m chomping at the bit every day. My tools are calling me, but the shop is too cold to do anything constructive in it. I can fire up the woodburner, but that just takes the chill off the air. Everything else is still cold. I walked out the other day, and some of my table tops on the planer, jointer and bandsaw had a light coat of rust on them. I almost had a high...

Veneering, a Primer Course
The top photo is a couple sample packs of sequenced matched veneers from Woodcraft supply. The secong photo is bookmatched Camphor veneer. The third photo is Bruce holding a sample of Avodire Crotch veneer, with No Finish on it.
Some of you may have noticed my slight addiction to working with veneers.
When you start to investigate the available veneers on the market, it becomes very difficult for me to understand the resistance to it that some people have....
