Today at the age of 32, I am a well-established furniture maker, small business owner, and woodworking instructor. At the age of 7 my Father John Skapars introduced me to the fine art of woodworking. I can remember helping him install our homes living room floor in the suburban Boston, Massachusetts town of Dover. An interest was sparked, and a true passion was discovered. Being an excellent student, knowing what I want, and not being afraid of failure all contribute to my current suc...
After looking through some other blogs here on LJ and watching some Youtube videos I thought that the tumbling block cutting board was something that looked challenging, cool and something I wanted to try. I learned some good ideas from these other blogs and wanted to share some of my experiences having now made three of these, my setbacks and discoveries to better produce these tumbling block patterns. I purchased a Wixey digital angle gauge as it looked like you really needed to be accu...
Well, I am still sitting here in the hospital next to my beautiful wife. It was a long night, but the good news is that her pain is under control and that she is getting excellent care. Its really just a waiting game, letting the pancreas decide when it wants to stop attacking itself! Anyway, back to the pantry. I took a side trip to work on the Lazy Susan Tables. Before I go there though I must address one issue. When I am creating something, anything, a thousand things run through my min...

Some of the blades, router bits and some shaper bits , I will be keeping for my self but, to be albe to buy more I have to sale items I don’t normally use or if there is way more of an item or group of items than I can use myself. This is one of those time. ...
Recently I purchased a Steam Bending Kit from Rockler Woodworking and Hardware so I could try out some Steam Bending. Bending wood is something I have never tried before and is out of my comfort zone. I wanted to dive into this area of woodworking and challenge myself as well as learn something new. So of the various forms of wood bending (Laminated Bending, Milled Bending, Steam Bending) I chose steam bending to be my first attempt. The kit I purchased included the reservoir, hose, and so...
This modular bookshelf is a great project for beginning woodworkers and you veteran woodworkers as well. Requiring only 2 boards to build and a limited amount of tools, this project can be made in a day or a weekend. the design can be modified by building more cubes or changing the orientation of the unit itself. Add some color and it makes a great display and shelving unit for a kids room. Give it a try.
I have posted my first 2 videos today, i know i did a workshop tour before but i thought it would be good to put on my actual youtube channel, heres the link: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuURBvPUoh_ghXT86FXtIRQ/feedPlease rate, comment and SUBSCRIBE it really means alot and will encourage me to make more videos and they will get even better!
