04-22-2015 07:30 PM by EläväPuu | 0 comments »

This Thorsen House cabinet repro is probably the third large-scale Greene & Greene project I’ve worked on in addition to numerous smaller lighting items. Common to the lot of them are masses of Ebony splines and plugs. Lots of information exists on people’s own ideas of how to pillow, round, shape, soften and relieve simple square plugs. Probably the most common that I’ve come across is William Ng’s tactic of chucking up a squared and thicknessed stick and pillo...

Making New Cocobolo Handles/Totes and Knobs for my Hand Planes -A How To

12-23-2014 12:25 AM by BigRedKnothead | 26 comments »

I got a wild hair to upgrade the wood on my Lie Nielsen planes from the stock cherry to cocobolo. There’s always more than one way to get the job done, but I’ll share my way. There’s lots of good pics along the way to help. So here goes. Safety note: Most all of us are at least mildly allergic to rosewood and other exotics. Where a mask….or you’ll wish you had. Just drilling cocobolo makes my eyes and nose itch. The Handles: You’ll want some 1×...

I am making some wooden handles for some harbor freight 6 function screw drivers for Christmas gifts. I made the first one from Walnut and the second one from Cocobolo. Yes I understand that cocobolo is a little nice for $2 hardware but I had this wood around for a long time and it sure does make a great handle! Please check out the video and comment I love the interaction ! Thanks!! Chris How to Make Wooden Handles for Screwdriver

My entry into the Christmas Ornament Challenge

11-16-2014 04:58 AM by cpine | 4 comments »

This is my entry into the Christmas Ornament Challenge put on by Alan Stratton and Carl Jacobson. This is the third annual challenge and I ma amazed at the beautiful ornaments folks have made! This idea came to me as I have made toys quit a bit in the past and I thought just make a version of an airplane that is smaller. Proportions were determined mostly on the fly and are just approximations of what should look good. Much of what I did I had in my head and I made the first piece then fit ...

steaming #2: Handles for bending strap

11-07-2014 07:36 PM by Lazy_K | 4 comments »

well I searched my garage for material appropriate to make handles/ends for my new steam bending strap. (re: Lee Valley)I was looking for a piece of 2×2 that was dark and possibly luan that I remember having. couldn’t find. then I looked through all of the stuff that I did have handy… beech, could be chair parts, osage, don’t want to waste it on something that’ll be left outside….spf .. to soft, oak (red or white) chair parts again. then I bumped into these....

Just a video of me and the wooden beard and hair combs that I make.

06-22-2014 01:57 AM by BTimmons | 16 comments »

I met a local videographer and had a blast shooting this video! It’s more of a general overview of me and how I got started doing what I do. A step by step tutorial it’s not, but I’m extremely happy with how it came out and I think it’s just really cool to see myself working in the third person! Hopefully you all enjoy this too! Thanks, here’s the link!
