Hi Everyone, this is my first time trying to do a blog. So please bear with me, I’ll do my best!I have had a lot of request to do a blog about my rings, I do 2 kinds of rings. The Lamination style and the Bentwood style, this blog is on the Lamination style. This ring is made out of Cocobolo, Brass and has a Mother- of-Pearl inlay. I start out with 3 thin squares of Cocobolo, about a 1.5”, I have a thin sheet of brass that I cut about the same size as the wood. I lay them out to o...

Hey everyone, It was suggested that I start a discussion on how to find and harvest burls. Please give your input also.
I don’t deal with straight grain that often. I cut and sell burls for a living so here is what I know.
It is illegal to harvest a burl without permission. of course if it is on your own property you can give yourself permission. What I do is put an ad on Craig’s list saying I want your burls. Most people don’t know what burls are. So you don’t get that many calls....

This weekend I was able spent some time discussing wood types and benefits with an Arboriculturist and tree biology expert . It was most enlightening. We discussed fibre content, strength and growth characteristics. We discussed color and grain. We discussed ages of trees, sustainability and wood ratings. I was amazed at all the science involved.
Anyway, I thought this might be an interesting area to discuss. Perhaps learn something new or interesting about different woods and thei...

Hey everyone,
I was asked by a few of you from my blog “How to find legal burls” “once I get them how do I cut the burls”?
Well I just made a short vidio on how I cut to the burl in the context of a bowl or hollow form blank.
Please coment and add if I don’t cover it well. If you not want to go thru the hassle of finding and cutting your own you can alway buy from me. LOLThanksGreg
Thanks Todd on the tip for getting the video on this post.

I found a posting in the ‘Free’ section of Craig’s List for some scrap wood piled up next to the curb. It was on a street just a few streets over from where I live. So… I ran over and this is what I found on the curb…
And here’s more of it loaded in my truck…
And a closeup of the mesquite…
Here’s a closeup of the maple burl I found in the pile…
It’s the best Craig’s List score I’ve ever ...

This Week I show you how to make a folding out feed table for your table saw. This design was based after an article and plan found in a 2009 issue of Woodworker’s Journal Magazine. Originally the plan was designed for a Cabinet saw with a Biesemeyer Fence System, so I had to make some slight modifications for my Porter Cable Saw. In this 3 part video series I show you a step by step on building this project as well as talk about the modifications I had to make. The Article and plans ca...

I just finished a video that details the construction of a neat little box I made for my wife as an anniversary gift.
This box has some unique features that make it special. Check out the video and leave a comment on the site and let me know what you think of the project.
The video can be accessed here:http://www.eaglelakewoodworking.com/post/Keepsake-Box-Cocobolo.aspx
I actually made two of this style box (one as prototype). Here’s a link to the photo galleries of each box:...

Recently I had a need to build a new table saw base for my saw. Rather than just building a simple replacement base, I opted to build one with lots of storage potential. This new base measures 6 feet long by 2 feet wide, which gave me good reason to move over to the new shop building. I haven’t yet finished the new shop set up ( haven’t even started) but this build is a great start giving me lots of options for storage potential… This build is a 2 part project. So be sure to...

Hey everyone,
I have just redesigned Oregonburls.com would like to offer an artist page. I know that it is expensive to get your art into galleries that charge up to 40% of the sales price and ebay up to 25%+. Oregonburls.com is an advertised site.
This page (Artist Corner) would allow you to sell your wood creations with just a flat fee of 10% of the sale price. You would keep your item and when it sells I print the shipping label and email it to you along with sending you a check or pa...
