Another money-saving (I hope) project that I did recently was a coat rack made from a couple of old wooden skis my grandfather left to me. He had two pairs from his youth that were still in pretty good shape. I still can’t believe people used these things.
Again, my wife and I were looking through catalogs (Pottery Barn or something similar) and saw that they had old wooden skis made into coat racks and hung on a wall. We got to think…Hey, we have skis!!! But look what they...

Hat and coat racks such as this are not for sale through any furniture outlets in our city of 6 million—at least not the kind you’d want.

It prefers growing in single-species often along watercourses or on brackish flats and sandy soils.
Despite its being prone to heart-rot, it is prized in the furniture industry for its beautiful, dense and durable timber, which is reddish-brown with darker streaks, a satin-like lu...

So, just yesterday my wife and I were talking. With Christmas coming up, we were trying to figure out where to put up the stockings. Inspiration hit like a bolt of lightning…or maybe it was the third glass of Jameson (yesterday wasn’t a good day after all). Either way, I came up with an idea that should be a nice little project that will also help fill a definite need in our house.
My plan is to take some simple pine and run coat pegs through it – enough so that there&...
