Making Carbide Tool Bar Handles

02-02-2013 09:04 PM by socrbent | 2 comments »

In the spirit of giving back to all you LJ’s who have inspired and informed me, here is an attempt to share the making of 4 tool bar handles. My wife gave me four 1/2” tool bars and 12 carbide cutters for Christmas from my wish list. Wanted to try some Easy Wood carbide type tools at a reasonable price level. To hold the cost down my wish list specified bars and cutters from Big Guy Productions and then turn my own handles for them. Step 1 – Turn HandlesThe project star...

How to make Bandings for Wood Inlay #2: .

07-20-2010 11:03 PM by Bob Simmons | 6 comments »

Once the banding segments are organized we can now focus on creating the interior design. We’ll need a few outer rippings that will sandwich the segments together and keep them in alignment. You’ll notice in the picture that the outer hardwoods are walnut and maple glued together. In this case the walnut will be on the inside with the maple on the outside. The reason for this is to create contrasting colors within the banding and also with the mahogany picture frames that will...

Parallel jaw leg vise

07-04-2012 10:28 PM by Boatman53 | 17 comments »

For about a year now I’ve been trying to refine the detail of my parallel jaw leg vise and I think I’ve got all the kinks worked out. My son put together this video of the bench I built this past winter that uses the chain leg vise. I’m in the process of getting quotes for the parts so I can offer these for sale. I’ve been making all the parts myself up to this point and I’m not a cnc. Take a look at the video and I welcome comment and discussions. It can be ret...

Roubo #1: The beginning, top.

01-15-2013 02:26 AM by bondogaposis | 11 comments »

Another Roubo build here. This is something that I really need. My old workbench that I built 30 years ago has gotten a bit rickety for hand planing I have found. I want something solid, so the only thing that moves when I plane a board is the plane. So I have begun to embark on a Roubo build. First step is the glue up. Leveling it up. I decided to go with poplar for most of the top. I have a cheap source of kiln dried poplar. I also think it is kind of soft for this applicat...

This week I decided to rebuild my tablesaws extension wing/router table. This time I removed the factory metal wing along with my old router table extension and built a new wing using the MDF and famica from last weeks build. This new extension wing combos as a router table as well as it has a pull out support arm that allows me to support my material as i cross cut long boards or sheets goods no matter if I am using a sled or not, because the support arm is adjustable. Here is a look at some...

Hey guys and Gals, this weeks project is just a fun simple shop project with a twist. I decided to build a Router bit cabinet for the shop. Well that was the plan, then i started thinking about a way to make it a little more interesting.. Then it hit me, Why not make a Router bit cabinet with a Secret Compartment?
