Ok so it isn’t Tuesday, but I thought I would share another review on a great product. I really enjoy testing out tools and this one was one of my favorites. There are a ton of great things about this vise. It has really been helpful in my blacksmithing hobby as well as my woodworking. You can’t go wrong with a Bessey Tools product. Check out the video review here. Feel free to leave comments and please subscribe to my YouTube Channel.

DIY Lathe #2: The better base!

2259 days ago by Marcel T | 2 comments »

Hey guys! Taking advantage of the long weekend here in Canada, (so this was last weekend) I made a better base for my dremel. I was taking it apart to see why it was squeaking (trapped sawdust) when the idea hit me – drill the existing screw holes all the way through the body, and get a longer screw to hold the dremel together (like the old screws) and hold the dremel to the base. Well, I didn’t have a screw quite that long and thin, but I did have some short screws of the correct diameter. S...

Handscrew Clamps #1: Get a handle on it..

956 days ago by jeth | 3 comments »

Hello all, I thought I’d post a short blog on the handscrew clamps I have just made. I was short on clamps for extra cauls on some laminated panels I am working on, as usual i didn’t find what I need on sale here so I had to knock something together. I won’t be posting all the details of the construction as the design is based on danriffles project here... (Thanks Dan :)As I don’t have a lathe, or a source of hardwood dowels, or time at this moment to build the ro...

Flag Box #5: Base

696 days ago by DBoltz | 0 comments »

Last time we got the splines installed and flushed up. Now, we will get the base done. Mortises cut on the base and on the bottom of the flag box using your standard drill press and chisel combo. Here we have the majority of the waste of a mortise hogged out using a forstner bit on the drill press. I just used a handheld drill on the bottom of the flag box. Here you can see the supports with the top tenon. They are just dry in the base with the mortise and tenon. I have the layou...

Maybe the beginning of a larger project #27: some progress

340 days ago by Mark Shymanski | 1 comment »

Well no pictures this evening. I managed to get a little shop time in, worked on the leeboard mounts, and the step for the mast. Those are ready for gluing in. I temporarily fixed my ROS but the bottom popped out again so I guess it’s time to shop for a new sander. I still have the old B&D half sheet sander of my Dad’s which is just shy of 412 years old and it still works, why can’t a three or four year old sander that spent much of the time in a drawer keep working ...

Custom Buffet #5: Drawer Fronts and Brick!

278 days ago by MT_Stringer | 10 comments »

Time to make the frames for the drawer fronts. The pieces were narrow and some were small so I set up a featherboard to help safely guide the pieces past the cutter. They turned out nice. The drawer fronts will have flat panels. I could have used either plywood or mdf but NO! Instead, I glued up some short pieces of poplar, planed them to almost 3/8 inch thick, then ran them through the drum sander. Next, it was cut to final size, then rout a rabbit in the rear so the panels would fit i...

bench vice and starting out

101 days ago by Lazy_K | 1 comment »

Hi, one of the investments a beginner woodworker thinks they really need is a nice cast iron bench vice. Now, I’ve been doing this professionally since 1982. In @ 1994 I got a used /discarded slab of laminated rock maple with a vice on one corner. some school threw out several student benches with the vices on them. some local persons “salvaged” them from the dumpster. my truck may have been used and I got one…. I never use it.I had gotten used to by then a homemade v...
