Hey everybody, after a few personal messages here is my version of a how to on a Drunken Checker Board. I of coarse bow to the Chairman of the Board and pay tribute with beer. This is a Off-Checker pattern I call “Drunken Alice in Wonderland” The “serendipitous” nature of this piece is appealing in a far out sort of way. Here Goes…
So first I prepare the Material. I am using Hard Maple and Walnut both are surfaced flat and cut 1” x 9” x 14&...

The quick and dirty instructions on how to make a zig-zag pattern cutting board.
Click on the pictures to see a full size image.
Choose a couple different types of hardwood. The more colors the better. Below is cherry, maple and walnut. Rip strips of wood any width so the total with is about 12”. This is the width that will fit through my planer. The beauty of this is that none of the widths have to be the same. The board shown below is made of scrape wood. If you only have shor...

Well, I was asked to put together a blog on how I made my segmentd ring. Since I had to make a new one for myself, (first one too small) I thought I would go ahead and do a step by step picture tutorial. My first time ever doing something like this , so hope it comes out OK.
Here goes;
Wood Selection
The first step in making the ring is deciding what woods to use. As we all know, the selection is quite large. One of the most important things is color, but the most important is hardne...

I have been asked to do a tutorial on how I made my Box Joint Bracelet
I will be trying to go Step-By-Step and not leave anything out. I know I am missing a couple of pics but will try and explain things as good as I can.
The first thing I would like to address is SAFETY There are many ways to do almost any process, depending on how you were taught/learned. Please be VERY carfull when useing your tools. I would hate to see anyone get hurt.
Onward: I only used one piece of wood f...

Hi folks. After some design changes and fine-tuning the drum sander is finally completed. Here’s a point by point description covering some of the steps I feel important to take on this project. Pictures should help where I’m not so clear. I will post the surface sanding option, some dimensions, and final comments in Part 3. Here it goes….. hope you like it.
Main Body: Made with ¾” maple veneer plywood and solid maple for the pillow block base. Assembled first with pocket screws to check t...

Lately I’ve been looking around trying to find inexpensive ways to make clamps to use in the shop. I think of my purchased commercially available clamps I own two 3 foot bar clamps and three Quick Grip clamps, plus two old c-clamps.
Bar Type Clamps:
The first information I found about making your own clamps was Alex Harris’ video.
I made one of these out of some second hand wood I had, though I did fudge the screw in favor of my own variation.
Spool Clamps:
I ...

A video showing how to make some really good wooden bar clamps.
End your clamp shortage now! Build some clamps which only cost a few pounds to make and could be better than clamps you can buy.
These clamps don’t mark the wood or stain from glue.

Has there ever been a time that you’ve struggled to cut a perfect mitre joint? Believe me, there’s no need to feel alone. All of us have had our challenges with the mitre joint at one time or another. So, let’s say that we want to build a woodworking project like a picture frame and we are looking to create four dead-on mitres joints. What’s going to be the woodworking tool of choice? We could use a chop saw or a mitre saw for our joinery. We could use a fine handsa...

After two more surgeries and almost a year, I am getting back to the shop to start woodworking again. Last year I made a “quilted cutting board” and have a few people offer to buy it, but I have no idea what to charge someone for this type of CB. If anybody that sells CB’s could help me I would appreciate it.
It is 12×18 x 1-3/8 thk and made from Black Walnut;Sugar Maple;Shedua;Yellowheart;Goncalo Alves;Santos Mahogany;Paduck. It took me two weeks to finish.
