New base for an old Porter Cable Circular Saw #1: Part 1 - ready for setup

10-03-2009 12:15 AM by ChunkyC | 0 comments »

Right hand sideLeft hand sideThe underside I not certain that this qualifies for a “project” but it’s been raining here for the last two days (on vacation not withstanding!) so I had to do something. The base started from a 12×12 blank of 1/8” hardboard and trimmed down to final size of 12×11-1/16. I made the base a lot wider on the left hand side so that I can use the saw with my good hand (left hand). The way is was before, the motor would hit the c...

techniques #1: Found a way I like to cut straight-end, non-through rip and crosscuts in plywood

03-14-2009 11:18 PM by Gary Fixler | 0 comments »

This is probably a common technique, with a name, but it only occurred to me today. I gave it a shot, and it worked out really well. I’m going to use it from now on for non-through cuts, and by that, I mean rips and crosscuts that don’t go from one end to the other, but do cut through bottom and top of the ply. Basically, once I set the blade height, and fence, I run the cut up to a 2” mark I make from the leading edge. Then I back it out, flip it over, and measure the di...

Built-In Bed #1: Pleasing the Customer

11-07-2010 11:57 PM by Scott R. Turner | 6 comments »

I always enjoy reading project blogs here on LJ, so I’ve decided to attempt one myself. Hopefully some folks will find it enjoyable! I’ve built a few beds over the past years, the most recent being this one that my son uses: It’s solid maple and has been beat up a little over the years and acquired glow-in-the-dark stars, all of which adds to its character, and I don’t mind in the least. I like that the bed has been host to both my children and that they...

The cover of the roof with wood is finished. I made side rails on my own way. The view from underneath is satisfying for me.

Cocktail table for my wife's room. #2: Top is being mounted

09-27-2012 03:21 AM by MarkTheFiddler | 3 comments »

Howdy, I started mounting the table top today. It occurs to me, in hindsight, that I may have caused myself a lot of frustration. I’ll find out soon enough when I try to place the diamonds. Be that as it may, it’s turning out pretty well but you can still tell that a rookie is doing the work. I was able to use the warped pieces but now I have a few pieces that are slightly higher than others. I just bought myself more hours of sanding. I’ve also got a few gaps. A f...

Foldable Router Table #1: The Idea

09-07-2011 01:59 AM by abadr | 1 comment »

Even though I have a decent size garage/shop, all tools need to be tucked away neatly since the space is used for metal working, photography, working on cars and of course parking. So space hogging fixed tools are avoided whenever possible. The idea for this router table is to take an inexpensive foldable table and replace the top with a thick, straight and strong MDF top for routing. I will then be able to collapse the table and stow it next to a wall taking little space. The original top...

Largest Circular Saw?

09-13-2014 02:21 AM by socrbent | 6 comments »

While watching Redwood Kings I saw them using a huge circular saw with a 32 clearly on blade. Could that be 32”? Definitely would take two hands. Amazing. This 16” Makita was the largest I found on Google with a quick search
