Kitchen Cabinets #2: Working on a countertop

2056 days ago by Dan Lyke | 1 comment »

This weekend’s goal is getting the cabinet beside the stove to at least have a usable counter-top. We picked up a beaten up 10’x2’ glued up piece of maple countertop off of Craigslist for $50, and that’s becoming the surface for beside the stoive, and the narrow counter for under the window, with a backsplash cut from the scraps. Today I took a deep breath and cut the first pieces. As I said, the counter-top was pretty beat up with a few gaps, so as I sanded...

Modern Sawboard #1: Brainstorming for ideas...

755 days ago by chopnhack | 6 comments »

Well the sawboard is a pretty simple jig, but man is it invaluable! The other day I needed to rip long taper cuts on a 2×6 and it was just the tool. I have been thinking about incorporating some holding clamps to the base to make it quicker to set up and use. This is what I came up with as my first run at design. I am thinking this would be ideal for breaking down plywood. The overall length is longer than 8’ so the design is two ply to allow for overlap. One side has a piece of ...

I HATE BIG projects

1513 days ago by Rich99 | 6 comments »

i have an 84 by 16×39” Parsons Bench. It is in my second bedroom, up agains the only avalable wall in the room (it’s a gambrel house; my outer walls are slanted inward). The bench has become the despignated storage area for stuff from all the other rooms… stationary supplies form my office/computer area, tools, clothes, books, old computer monitors, junk, sewing supplies and torn clothing, etc. it’s overflowing. so, i drew up a set of plans for a set of sh...

Christmas Presents: Early & Late

1208 days ago by spunwood | 5 comments »

I was gifted by a very generous Lumberjock with a Skilsaw. I just recently used it to crosscut some hard maple, and I wanted to say thank you again to Jim C (it works great!). Also, I wish all of you here a Merry Christmas. That was the early Christmas gift. The late Christmas gifts are for my parents which I am just now working on: A wine balancer & A cutting board. You can see all three gifts in the the pictures

New Tools Are Cool #2: Bosch CS5 Circ Saw

812 days ago by JoeyG | 10 comments »

So my last package for the day just showed up. There should be a few more over the coming days but for now lets talk about my new circular saw. As I said in the last episode I need to retool my shop for making cabinets. Since I cannot fit a large table or panel saw in my shop I will have to cut my sheet goods with a circular saw. I am replacing a very old Black and Decker that looks like hell and cuts even worse. I believe I have more chance of cutting a perfect circle than a straight ...

Printer Table #1 (Basic Construction)

2231 days ago by teenagewoodworker | 8 comments »

Hey Everybody In this episode of the Teenage Woodworker I go over some basic cabinet construction in the first part of a three part series where i make a printer table. There are a lot of technical things that i go over but try to stay with me for the whole episode. As always since i am only using a digital camera to film the sound is a little bad. so try to bear with me it helps to turn up the sound and sit a little bit away from the computer. this improves the sound a little bit. ...

New base for an old Porter Cable Circular Saw #1: Part 1 - ready for setup

1658 days ago by ChunkyC | 0 comments »

Right hand sideLeft hand sideThe underside I not certain that this qualifies for a “project” but it’s been raining here for the last two days (on vacation not withstanding!) so I had to do something. The base started from a 12×12 blank of 1/8” hardboard and trimmed down to final size of 12×11-1/16. I made the base a lot wider on the left hand side so that I can use the saw with my good hand (left hand). The way is was before, the motor would hit the c...

techniques #1: Found a way I like to cut straight-end, non-through rip and crosscuts in plywood

1860 days ago by Gary Fixler | 0 comments »

This is probably a common technique, with a name, but it only occurred to me today. I gave it a shot, and it worked out really well. I’m going to use it from now on for non-through cuts, and by that, I mean rips and crosscuts that don’t go from one end to the other, but do cut through bottom and top of the ply. Basically, once I set the blade height, and fence, I run the cut up to a 2” mark I make from the leading edge. Then I back it out, flip it over, and measure the di...

Built-In Bed #1: Pleasing the Customer

1257 days ago by Scott R. Turner | 6 comments »

I always enjoy reading project blogs here on LJ, so I’ve decided to attempt one myself. Hopefully some folks will find it enjoyable! I’ve built a few beds over the past years, the most recent being this one that my son uses: It’s solid maple and has been beat up a little over the years and acquired glow-in-the-dark stars, all of which adds to its character, and I don’t mind in the least. I like that the bed has been host to both my children and that they...

The cover of the roof with wood is finished. I made side rails on my own way. The view from underneath is satisfying for me.
